EXCLUSIVE: Veteran ICM agent Carol Bodie will be leaving ICM Partners. The move was expected because Chris Silbermann and Rick Levy decided last May not to offer her a partnership after their management buyout of the tenpercentery – even though she represents the high-profile Jon Hamm and other clients she has been associated with include True Grit’s Hailee Steinfeld, Kim Cattrall, David Oyelowo, Mick Jagger and Shirley MacLaine.

Um… If not for Iris Grossman he would not even be at that agency and possibly not even an actor. She is the one who put him on the series that has catapulted his career. Granted, Carol did a good job for him in the motion picture world. Yet, she is a senior agent so shouldn’t Carol be doing that? My heart goes out to Iris and I hope that Jon makes the right decision and follows loyalty and the reason he is where he is in the biz. He was on an ICM cut-list and Iris saved him from the axe, put Bodie in his life. Now, that is an example of a warm, kind and talented agent and human being. Jon (& Connie) do the right thing. If you are going to depart the agency; do it so Iris can get out too.

She is well hated at ICM. Silbermann called her into his office and told her such and explained there was no future there for her.

Remember when ICM was cool?
I’m a fairly new director casting a film and Carol has been the most aggressive agent i’ve dealt with in trying to get her client a role in my film…i really wasn’t interested but brought her client in and read him twice because of her passion…i ultimately did not cast him but will always measure her work against other agents now and in the future. I can’t help but wonder if my agent does the same for me…any actor would be lucky to be represented by her.
Are we talking about the same Carol? Folks, I worked with her every day. She’s the angriest, trickiest person I ever met at an agency.
Bodie is a good agent but at the same time can be extraordinarily manipulative and spiteful. I would imagine she was not offered partnership because she represented the “old” ICM and was a protégé (or at least kissed the ring) of Ed Limato who protected her. During her reign several years ago as MP Talent Head she lost (or plotted the demise) of approximately 5 agents under her watch that were either homegrown and performing but she didn’t like. Some were fired others left on their own accord. Flash forward a couple of years And those young people she bet on (Chris Hart, Scott Schachter, etc.) left the agency. So, she was even more isolated for a variety of reasons. In past couple years she lost Claire Danes, Jim Sturgess, Mark Strong and even Dermot Mulroney. Hailee was really signed by Chris Hart because of good coverage. Bodie has done solid work for Jon Hamm but it is wrong for Iris Grossman not to be included or mentioned as he wouldn’t be or been at ICM Partners if not for her. Carol has good taste, works hard and will forage ahead. These are some facts I felt should be mentioned since I’ve watched it all. There are unsavory things to say but why…we all know things we need not share. These are facts.
you have your facts wrong…chris hart, scott schachter were not the people she bet on…those were Toni Howard/John Burnham people…Bodie hired Meredith Wechter, Adam Schweitzer, promoted Nigel Miegjos, Justin Deanda…years ago she got rid of Nikki Joel, Jessica Pilch, Troy Zien and Daisy Wu…and what are they doing now? I think she bet on the right agents from the “facts.”
Also, the only reason she lost the clients you mention is because she worked at the dud agency ICM…it’s a miracle she kept any clients working there…and, by the way, name one “partner” who represents any actors with real value. And one other fact you have wrong: Carol and Iris have a very close relationship…but the fact is that not one MP Talent agent wanted to represent Jon Hamm when he was a “nobody” except Carol…she started working with him way before “MAD MEN” premiered. And I was there to see it all too!
Iif you were there or are still there you are aware Iris attends MP Casting meetings weekly.
here is the reality – icm wants people who are “nice” and who happen to suck and cant get jobs at caa, wme or uta. good luck icm!
If “being nice” means you can’t get into a bigger agency to be a lifetime assisant and includes Carol’s past and current clients, sign me up.
I’m sure you’ll understand once you flop and move back to Iowa or wherever. Now go get on the bus, you go-getter!
Wow, a great client list. No brainer that she’ll end up at Jeff Berg’s new company. The question becomes – which clients will go with her – and how long will they still have to pay ICM on length of existing contracts ?
Hamm aside, looks like a Jack Gilardi-in-his-prime list to me. Difficult to place or big recognizable names that engender their own work. “Mad Men” aside, and especially considering the success of “Mad Men” and how great he is generally, I see some dysfunctional ennui goin’ on there “career-wise” a Billy Wilder might say in terms of trajectory…all over the map. There’s no big acting signer above her at I.C.M.; she probably has always needed that; that’s probably her big secret. Or else? The bland and mid-level that often come and go that any big agency can theoretically afford you (to the agent) through perception (on talent’s side) of the market share of clout. I.C.M. is the bank statement panic move of a name, has been for a long time now, and in both directions. Something tells me that Berg was the smarter fox in that buy-out and exit.

Carol has always been a class act. I wish her only the best.
I can only describe Carol as a fantastic agent. As an active producer, I work with them all. She reads, she cares, she’s intelligent and works hard for her clients. I have a hard time naming 10 that share those qualities.
Chris Silberman has dismantled everything that was exciting about ICM’s talent department. Why did he even come over? He had his own literary agency before. What a terrible leader. Maybe he’s counting some dollars, but he is a fool. I would never recommend a client go to that agency. Ridiculous management and bad p.r.. Now Carol leaves who reps their biggest male star. I feel sorry for the good agents that are stuck in that mess…get out if you can.
