EXCLUSIVE: Oscar winner Martin Landau and Oscar-nominated Virginia Madsen are set to co-star opposite Agnes Bruckner in Lifetime’s original movie The Anna Nicole Story. American Psycho helmer Mary Harron has come on board to direct the film, executive produced by Craig Zadan, Neil Meron and Judith Verno. Written by John Rice and Joe Batteer, the biopic is based on the true life story of Vickie Lynn Hogan, a pretty but plain girl growing up in a small Texas town who transforms herself into Anna Nicole Smith – a voluptuous, Marilyn Monroe-esque Playboy pin-up and model. Determined to be noticed, for good or ill, Vickie gets her wish, but it comes at a steep price, both for her and her beloved son, Danny. Madsen will play Vickie’s mom Virgie who raised her. Landau will play oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall who married then-stripper Smith when he was 89 and she was 26. He died a year later, and Smith spent the following decade in a legal battle with Marshall’s sons over his estate. The Anna Nicole Story is produced by Sony Pictures TV and Zadan and Meron’s Storyline Entertainment. Landau, repped by TalentWorks, voices a character in the upcoming animated feature Frankenweenie. Harron is with WME.

With these two in it, it may be worth watching. I’m not a big fan of “Lifetime” flicks…..because I have a penis.
I like that Lifetime is becoming a network for talented actors. First Ormond, now Landau and Madsen. In couple of years it won’t be a joke network but a respected one. Mark my words.
Mary Harron is a good choice to helm the bio but Anne Nicole Smith and Lifetime are like liberal left and conservative right. It ain’t going to work! If Lifetime glossed over ANS long stint as a stripper and finding fame as Playboy pin-up because nudity is a big no-no, it becomes pointless and undermines ANS life. Her successful career as Playboy star and softcore actress – lurid as it was – played a huge part in shaping her eventual tragic end. I don’t see how Lifetime going to bypass all that and still retain any credibility.
How do you know that they are going to gloss over that aspect of her life? I don’t know anything about the woman, nor do I care, but you seem to be arguing a position that you can’t be sure is accurate (despite how Lifetime may or may not depict her rise and eventual fall).
Lifetime is all vanilla hiding behind the typical humanizing the character cliched approach. There are three aspects to ANS life : her career, the marriage & subsequent notoriety and of course her gradual dependency issues that slowly takes over her life. If you watched any of Lifetime movies you’ll know they tend to shy away anything potentially construed as “exploitation” and “female objectification”. But in case of ANS she used the latter as a tool to market herself yet staying just on the borderline of the former.
By the way I was privileged enough to watch ANS (before boobs enhancement) during her stripping days back in Texas (not at GiGi but a different club) and I can tell you she belonged on that stage. Her moves perfectly matched the music and every eyes on was on her. She was a star. Somehow I don’t think Lifetime will be too keen to show that or even her famed Playboy shots.
zack her softcore acting didnt play a role in her death in the end. drug addiction did.
