EXCLUSIVE: After grossing $563 million worldwide on The Expendables and its recently released sequel, Millennium Films has set Legally Blonde scribes Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith to write ExpendaBelles, the title of the spinoff action film that will show the feminine side of the mercenary business. The intention is to hatch a franchise that will be driven by actresses who’ve logged time in action films over the years, much the same way that The Expendables team is comprised of action film staples. Millennium will finance with Avi Lerner and Mark Gill producing, along with Heidi Jo Markel of Eclectic Pictures and Julie Kroll of Summertime Entertainment and Boaz Davidson. Trevor Short will be executive producer.
The action game hasn’t been as steady for actresses as it has been for their male counterparts, but certainly Angelina Jolie thrives and Underworld‘s Kate Beckinsale, Resident Evil‘s Milla Jovovich, Haywire‘s Gina Carano, and Kill Bill‘s Uma Thurman have done well in the butt-kicking action realm. And there is also Alien‘s Sigourney Weaver, Long Kiss Goodnight‘s Geena Davis, Elektra‘s Jennifer Garner, Crouching Tiger‘s Michelle Yeoh, Red Sonja‘s Brigitte Nielsen, and action genre matriarch Pam Grier. Who am I missing? Millennium is compiling its own list, but doesn’t expect to make offers until the writers deliver the goods. Lutz and Smith are repped by Paradigm and Jaret Entertainment.

Linda Hamilton!
CARRIE-ANNE MOSS from the MATRIX TRILOGY would be perfect for this too!!!
Agreed. Linda Hamilton was the Ultimate female action hero AND NO FEMALE ACTION HERO SINCE HAS EVEN COME CLOSE!! Her agent in the 90′s then must have sucked or it just wasn’t the time before all the cool female action roles hit the big screen like Tomb Raider, Underworld and Resident Evil. Linda Hamilton is old enough to be my mom, then again Arnold and Sly are old enough to be my dad. In any case, they all look bad @ss on screen.
Whichever studio gets Linda Hamilton and gets her back into shape like Arnold and Sly have is going to hands down be the winner.
Side Note: Stallone would make a great Doctor Strange. Strange is a major marvel super-hero that hasn’t hit the big screen yet. Strange is not marvels most personality driven character. So, someone with style and personality like Stallone. In any case, in a year or so the last of Marvels top characters will no longer be open so if I were an agent then I would be on top of it all.
Cynthia Rothrock – 80s action queen
Sarah Michelle Gellar – TV’s Buffy
Lucy Lawless – TV’s Xena: Warrior Princess
Katee Sackhoff – Starbuck from the recent Battlestar Galactica
From the writers of One For the Money??? Epic fail.
I’m sorry. But if they really want this to do well, they should hire professional genre writers. Not rom-com fluff.
Sounds like a bad SNL skit.
If they get Cynthia Rothrock, I’m totally up for this.
How about Zoe Saldana and Michelle Rodriguez?
Go Karen and Kiwi!
Maggie Q (Nikita, Die Hard 4) Kristanna Loken T3
Zoe Bell (stunt double/actress) (appears in Tarantino films)
Expect the exact same level of enthusiasm for this flick that most of America shows for the WNBA playoffs.
Carano and Sackhoff have signed for a similar project for 1984 Private Defense Contractors, so they’re likely off the board for this one.
I’d think you’d have to include Zoe Bell for one of these projects, since she’s so well known for her stunt work.
I think you get Zoe and Uma and have them fight each other. That would be rad! You know, cause Zoe was Uma’s double in KILL BILL.
Linda Hamilton – I 2nd that, she should beef up again like in T2
Karen Allen (Indy cred)
Julia Nickson (Co from RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD PART II)
Michelle Yeoh
Rae Dawn Chong
As much as I like Zoe Saldana and Michelle Rodriguez, they are too young. If they are going for what EXPENDABLES did, then it needs to be older action actresses.
Wait, is this a different one from the flick starring Gina Carano and Katee Sackhoff that Adi Shankar’s 1984 Private Defense Contractors is doing? Dutch Southern was supposed to be writing that one…
Truly one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard. I’m going just for the title. And there better be some hot lesbo action to boot.
Love the idea. Just don’t call it “ExpendaBelles”. Yeesh.
This sounds worse than I could have imagined. Mark and Heidi jo are the new Batman and Batgirl!! Hey Boaz, stop this craziness!!
Kirstie Alley!
Kind of weird that they’d hire a comedy writer to write an action movie…sounds cool, just saying…
Dina Meyer! SAW and Starship Troopers. Saw her on Criminal Minds last year, totally badass.
ziyi zhang, Crouching Tiger
Sigourney Weaver.
Ripley was the ultimate bad ass.
Charlize Theron
Zoe Saldana
Franka Potente
Noomi Rapace
Tons of women are great action stars.
These guys have written exactly one watchable movie. Are they really the best people out there?
This would be a more interesting concept if it actually was about the girlfriends/wives/daughters of the “Action Heroes” who always end up staying behind or being kidnapped and held captive, etc… but this time it is their boyfriends (the “heroes”) who get captured while on a mission and all of the previously “damsels in distress” have to team up and go rescue them.
You could cast Charisma Carpenter (GF in the Expendable series), Mary Elizabeth WInstead (Daughter in Live Free or DIe Hard), Karen Allen (GF in trouble in the Indy movies), etc…
They are going to steal your excellent idea and you will not get any credit you came up with a winning formula to make this movie better.
Sarah Michelle Gellar have to be in this movie, she is a great actress and I loved her in Buffy.
I second the vote for Michelle Rodriguez…
But this pic will never happen.
