Instant divorce could be coming to a television near you. Fox has confirmed that they’ve made a pilot order at MIPCOM for a show that offers warring couples an immediate end to their marriage. Divorce Hotel sees A. Smith & Co. Productions partnering with BASE Productions on the concept. A. Smith & Co. are the producers of the successful Gordon Ramsay FOX shows Hell’s Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares. Divorce Hotel is based on a Dutch business and was secured last year by BASE at MIPCOM for TV development. The idea is that an estranged husband and wife check into a luxury hotel for a weekend of lawyers, counseling and mediation in an attempt to streamline their final separation. Come Sunday, the couples that go through with it will leave as newly divorced singles. Arthur Smith, Kent Weed, Mickey Stern, and John Brenkus will be the executive producers on Divorce Hotel.

What a horrible concept for another bland reality show. I thought ABC was bad with their shows, but FOX is about to top them with the most insane concepts ever created.
Distasteful and depressing. I can’t imagine anyone wanting to watch it.
This is an original idea? Fox already did this show in 2007. It was called “Decision House” and was produced by one of Dr. Phil’s slimy sons, aired to nearly nobody on MyNetworkTV, and was pretty much the same as this show completely. Heck, it was even hosted by Lynn Toler, who moved right onto Fox’s syndicated “Divorce Court” after it failed.
Obviously Fox likes to claim selective memory.
I am one of the few people who try not to take pot shots at poor reality show concepts. I also seem to come from a rare environment where marriage is taken very seriously.
I find this concept vomit inducing. In a day when some adults can not even get married where they live the idea of divorce as spectacle is horrendous.
First ‘The Swan” and now this? A Smith better hope there’s no Judgement Day for him.
Brought to you by the network behind “Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire?”
sorry, but i have to say i think it’s a terrible idea, who would want to subject themselves to this?
Going through divorce proceedings is one of the most emotionally fraught episodes many people ever go through in their lives. Most of the time, these emotions have been building for years, from love to apathy to disappointment to outright hate. Who wouldn’t want to watch people unleash the most pent up and raw agitation they’ve perhaps ever felt?
Did you ever think that perhaps this show could act as a mirror for those looking to be wed? A cautionary tale teaching how not to ruin a marriage? Divorce happens. Only the excessively prude and those with an extreme aversion to the realities of life would have qualms about showing it on TV.
