Lionsgate has secured release dates for the next two Tyler Perry films, announcing today that Tyler Perry’s Single Moms Club will open May 9, 2014 and an untitled Madea’s Christmas film will open December 13, 2013. Both films will be written and directed by Perry via his Tyler Perry Studios. Moms Club is a dramatic comedy about a group of single mothers from different walks of life who are brought together by an incident at their children’s school. They create a support group that helps them find comedy in the obstacles of life, as well as their inner strength to overcome their personal challenges.
Universal has set a January 17, 2014 release date for Ride Along, a comedy that stars Kevin Hart and Ice Cube and comes from Think Like A Man director Tim Story. When a tough undercover officer’s (Cube) future brother-in-law (Hart) joins him on an overnight shift, the wisecracking trainee gets embroiled in the seasoned cop’s latest case. In order to prove that he is worthy of his future bride, he must survive the most insane night of his life. John Leguizamo, Tika Sumpter, Bryan Callen and Jay Pharoah co-star.

Is it fair to call Tyler Perry the “black Adam Sandler?” Seems that, just like Sandler, Perry has a very specific audience who continue to pay good money to see a piece-of-crap after piece-of-crap movies. Similarly, the studio(s) don’t know how to say “no” to him and seem destine to green light virtually anything he wants.
Coming Soon to a Theatre Near You: Tyler Perry in… Madea Gets the Runs!
Makes sense to give the greenlight to someone who ALWAYS makes you $.
Cannot wait for “Ride Along.” Tim Story directing Kevin Hart = hilarious. Loved “Think Like a Man” — funniest movie of the year.
Good call, Steve.
Every Madea movie has turned a profit for Lionsgate. Last time I checked studios could care less about quality if it’s making money.
I’m not a huge Tyler Perry fan, but I do recognize that he makes films for a ridiculously underserved market of African American/Urban audience and he hires more diverse workers than ANYONE else making films in the US. My hope is that his films and the Rainforest Films (Think Like A Man, Takers) projects will convince other studios to put our more urban films…..How many more “just add water and stir” Twilights, Fast & Furious, Bourne, Paranormal films can we all take.
I don’t watch Perry’s movies but I applaud him for what he does. SOMEONE has to put black actors to work–no one else is.
Tyler Perry only puts a handful of black actors to work. And the “work” that he offers is disgraceful and regressive. Perry may have been “successful” –though it seems his bandwagon is slowing if not stalled– but it’s not the kind of success that does anyone any good. His filmography is one that even he can’t be proud of.
There will always be an audience for minstrel-type stupidity that he puts out, but that doesn’t make it right. And for the record, it’s not just churchgoing black women who eat his films up. There’s a white audience who buys his stuff too because black buffoonery appeals to them too.
Well yeah, it’s hard for me to disagree with you, I think his stuff is el crapo, but there are lots of people who love it. And can we be so “superior” as to deny them their idea of what’s enjoyable? One person’s bafoonery is another’s brilliant comedy.
There’s a place for him, I say we stand back and let him roll.
But Alex Cross?… that’s stepping over the line.
Are you serious with this?
JaySmack, my favorite director in the world is Chris Nolan. I’d LOVE to work with Ridley Scott, the Cohen Brothers, P.T. Anderson, and Woody Allen. Those are my favorite directors. But they DON’T EMPLOY young black actresses and they NEVER WILL. (Unless you count the ghetto hooker in Deconstructing Harry)
Black actresses need to eat, pay rent, take care of their bills. Maybe it’s very easy for you to ignore, but that’s the truth. I like Tyler Perry, and I admire him and his work, and he’s the only one in Hollywood HIRING. No one’s turning down Ang Lee to work with Tyler Perry, but these girls have NO CHOICES. If I had to wait on Ridley Scott to cast me, I would starve. Get it?
Stop the judgement and see the prespective from the other side. Are you hiring? No? Then stop it. ‘Single Mom’s Club’ will audition and cast several black women who would not be working otherwise, I guarantee.
Tyler Perry is an “Incredible Man” his work is from the Creator and the creativity of his work is designed to reach all those in the earth that he is uniquely called to. He has a message in all of his movies. He is not an in-the-box person such as some of you all insecure, immature, and fearful thinkers! When you find your purpose to do what you are gifted to do then you will appreciate his gift. Alex Cross is designed to show and display that he is a true actor. “Go Tyler” way to shock all humanity with another level of acting! Tyler is making money and giving it to those who are in need! All I want to say is God bless Tyler Perry’s enemies and haters. You may not see the bigger picture now but your children and grand children will appeciate his work and love it because they are a different generation and a different breed. (Mark these words!)
