John Stockwell’s Seal Team Six: The Raid On Osama Bin Laden will make its world premiere on the National Geographic Channel on Sunday, November 4 two days before the Presidential election. Produced by Oscar winner Nicolas Chartier (The Hurt Locker) and distributed by The Weinstein Co, the film chronicles the operation that led to the killing of the al-Qaeda leader and represents NGC’s first broadcast of a feature inspired by real-life events. The movie will be available on Netflix the day after its debut on NatGeo. Meanwhile, Kathryn Bigelow’s feature about the hunt for bin Laden opens in theaters a month later, on Dec. 19.
The Weinstein Co. acquired Seal Team Six (then Code Name Geronimo) in May for $2 million in the first major deal at the Cannes Film Festival. NatGeo brass have been in discussions with Harvey Weinstein and his team for the past couple of months about bringing the film to the network. Seal Team Six underlines NatGeo’s new emphasis on narrative historical programming. The network is making a big entry into the arena with the upcoming Killing Lincoln, a two-hour historical thriller from Scott Free Prods., which is narrated by Tom Hanks.
Seal Team Six stars Cam Gigandet, Anson Mount, Freddy Rodriquez, Xzibit, Kathleen Robertson, Eddie Kay Thomas and Kenneth Miller, with Robert Knepper and William Fichtner. It was written by Kendall Lampkin. The events portrayed in the film were vetted by a team of experts including a recently retired Navy Seal, a top CIA operative and one of the most renowned bin Laden historians. Here’s the trailer:

“Vetted by an ex-navy seal and top CIA operative”. “Inspired by real events” is a real stretch in this case, and an irresponsible one in my eyes. Talk about disinformation..
I hope it doesn’t cause riots it the middle east.
Harvey once again realized he overpaid for a movie.
TONIGHT WE RIDE!!!!!!!
TONIGHT WE RIDE!!!
I’ve watched this spectacular trailer at least six hundred times [thank you for providing it!] and that line needs to be in EVERY movie.
If you’re reading this, and you’re in the movie business, put that line in your movie. TONIGHT WE RIDE!!!!! I love it!
Isn’t this based on the book that got completely discredited by every SEAL, every official source, and half a dozen reporters?
Two days before the election? Harvey makes his biggest donation to Obama to date.
ya gotta wonder about a piece of marketing that doesn’t feature a protagonist or a recognizeable villian. It’s just historical noise, which makes it look like a rushed TV movie hack job.
Better luck next time, Nat Geo!
Read Mark Owen’s book “No Easy Day” to get the true, full story. He was team leader on Chalk One, the chopper that crashed. Judging by this footage, this movie looks silly, bombastic and ultimately insulting to the real operators responsible for the successful mission. (And I’m not one of those military types that picks apart every gun, insignia and call sign in movies.)
I’m curious to know if they got an actual team member from the mission to consult for them. The way the helicopter crashes is definitely accurate (tail first on the wall), but they could have shot that after they saw Owen’s 60 Minutes interview. I’m just surprised that another team member would have divulged details, as it seems like Owen was the only one, and according to him, the other guys gave him their blessing, and I believe him.
Cant believe National Geographic allowed themselves to be used for someone else’s politics. Thought they would never go the route of all the other nets. Sad.
You people are ALL CRAZY!!!! It’s just a movie, real/fiction, who cares, It’s A MOVIE, has NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS! This is just your way of twisting things into what you want people to think. AGAIN, IT IS A MOVIE, Talk about PARANOID PEOPLE!!! Get a life, the movie isn’t even out yet and your trying to predict things that haven’t even happened and others are bringing politics into this due to the fact it happens to air two days before the election. I cannot believe how crazy people are, Like most of the people posting about this MOVIE.
Ted, Relax, get back on the hookah and pay attention. The film was bought by a big Obama supporter. The film is being rushed and released on the day before the election on NGC. The next night Netflix has agreed to stream it. This is not some coincidence. This is also not a theatrical movie. It is an infomercial for Obama (otherwise it would be in theaters making money or losing money). It’s not paranoid; it’s just the best explanation for the facts.
Just try not to judge it until you’ve seen it.
Yeah big coincidence airing just 2 days before the election. NG’s bias is shining through. This show’s credibility and authenticity has been blown away (pun intended) by the Seals and apparently way over emphasizes Obama’s involvement and most likely will underemphasize his unwillingness to make the decision to authorize the mission until he was pushed to. Unfortunately, I will now have to look at NG’s programming with some skepticism. On a positive note I would bet that a majority of the people who might ordinarily be swayed to vote for Obama by a tv show will be watching Honey Boo Boo instead.
