There will be five hours of The Voice during the week of the Presidential elections. NBC just announced that it will air live two-hour editions Monday, November 5 and Wednesday, November 7 (8-10 PM) as well as an hourlong one on Thursday, November 8 (8-9 PM). The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays but will be pre-empted November 6 for Election Night coverage. Keeping with the elections theme, during that week The Voice viewers will vote for the first time this season on which artists get into the Top 12. During that week, The Voice will go head-to-head with Fox’s The X Factor on Wednesday and Thursday and will also face TV’s biggest scripted series, Modern Family, on Wednesday and The Big Bang Theory on Thursday. The extra Voice on Wednesday and Thursday is bound to give a shot in the arm to flailing new drama Chicago Fire on Wednesday and the final season of The Office on Thursday.

Well I would normally watch NBC on a Thursday but as I don’t watch televised karaoke I won’t be watching it those nights
too bad for you…..
I’m sure Simon Cowell will be upset by this. Another ratings loss to the already under-performing X-Factor is not what he wants to see.
Bold move by NBC but it could be good for them. I don’t think it will have trouble beating the X-Factor although Modern Family and TBBT will obviously take away some viewers. Thursday’s the important one as it could do some great things for The Office and Parks & Rec.
NBC is just going to “Millionaire” their top show into the ground. This is not a smart move. This is more short-term thinking on the part of NBC. No strategy. Just more “Voice”.
Doesn’t anyone remember Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
What exactly can they do for The Office and Parks & Rec, being that they are two lame-duck series?
Is NBC testing new waters for midseason? I mean, it would help it’s Thursday shows. But let this not become a habit and then expand it to 5 nights!!!!
Well FOX did the same with Idol and at times aired it 3 nights a week. The new programming head is really doing his best to kill X Factor.
After a decade of FOX using AMERICAN IDOL to annihilate all the competition on ABC, NBC and CBS, it’s refreshing to see FOX get a taste of what it’s like to have a rival network show eat into their ratings. I’m still pissed that they canceled TERRA NOVA in favor of MOB DOCTOR???? ZING!
Terra Nova got canceled because it cost too much per episode for the ratings it was pulling in. Mob Doctor had nothing to do with it. And no I’m not a fan of that show either.
Moves like this are why I’ve given up most of these shows. Too much time commitment.
A shot in the foot. So busy trying to kill off X FACTOR (which it has failed to do) NBC will only hurt itself.
Although politicians would have been upset, what if NBC had decided to run “The Voice” on Election Night between 8 and 10 P.M. EST and reduced election night coverage of updates during “Voice”, an hour from 10 to 11 P.M. EST, and breaking into regular late-night programming for the loser’s concession speech and the winner’s acceptance speech??
I think the Peacock would have ran away with the ratings.
