NBC has made the first back orders this fall, giving full-season orders to drama Revolution and comedies Go On and The New Normal. “We’re impressed with the imagination and creative direction of the entire team on Revolution, not to mention the immediately strong response we got from the audience,” said NBC entertainment president Jennifer Salke. “We’re also very proud of our new comedy block of Go On and The New Normal.”
The news comes on the heels of NBC logging its first outright premiere-week win among adults 18-49 in nine years, fueled by the early success of Revolution as well as The Voice‘s expansion to fall and the ongoing strength of Sunday Night Football. “We’re very pleased with early results of the last three weeks of our fall season roll-out,” said NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt. “The strategy for this season was to draft off the promotional platform of the Olympics and then begin our season early and strong. I think we’ve accomplished both of those goals, yet we know it’s a long season and there’s much work ahead of us.”
The pickups of Revolution, Go On and The New Normal had been considered no-brainers as the three have been NBC’s strongest new series so far this season. The forecast is cloudier for underperforming new comedies Animal Practice and Guys With Kids.
In three airings to date, Eric Kripke/JJ Abrams’ Revolution has averaged a 3.6 rating/9 share in adults 18-49 and 9.8 million viewers in Live+same say. Its premiere garnered the highest 18-49 rating (4.1) for a premiering drama on any network in three years. Revolution, from Bad Robot and Warner Bros. TV, has slipped in live viewing in Weeks 2 and 3 but has set time-shifting records for NBC, growing by 1.36 ratings points in 18-49 in week one and then 1.74 in week two in Live+3. It also has dominated CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 and ABC’s Castle in the Monday 10 PM slot.
Scott Silveri’s Go On is averaging a 3.2/9 in 18-49 and 8.6 million viewers in Live+same day, making it the No.1 new comedy of the fall so far. The regular-slot premiere of the Uni TV-produced comedy starring Matthew Perry scored NBC’s top 18-49 rating for a comedy debut (3.4) in the last two years.
The New Normal is averaging a 2.2/6 in 18-49 and 6.0 million viewers. The comedy hails from Ryan Murphy, Ali Adler and 20th Century Fox TV.

Obviously, there is no bench strength…
Why haven’t they done the same with Animal Practice?????? My brothers and I love that new show and they better not cancel that. They never give good shows a chance
Your bothers like it, too? That’s great news, those guys don’t like anything.
Great response!
They haven’t given it one YET…
But to be honest, I wouldn’t keep my hopes up. NBC has 2 midseason comedies so they might not renew it. It hasn’t really lived up to my expectations, but it is still good. I think they should allow George to be more of a douche, and Doug to be more Tyler Labine-ish. But, it certainly is WAY better than The New Normal, which is not funny at all. I watched the first 3 episodes, and found ONE joke funny (granted it was sort of a triple joke, and a really good one).
Be interesting to watch New Normal’s numbers drop week after week, because it’s going to spawn an awesome game of “Who Gets Fired Over This Decision” around the water cooler.
HAHAHA! Too bad The New Normal is the #1 comedy in LIVE +3DVR viewers. People don’t watch TV the way they used to and the numbers should reflect that and ARE. So suck off! The New Normal is the best thing on network television.
Thank you. New Normal is huge timeshift performer. People don’t race home and watch TV anymore.
I really hope that is sarcastic. TNN is very, very bad. It is not funny, the writing is horrid, the characters are 1-dimensional, AND NBC CANCELLED BENT FOR IT??? WHY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
The New Normal is basically Glee but without the redemptive talent singing to make up for the horrible, horrible jokes. I really wanted to like it as I am a fan of Andrew Rannells but wow talk about playing to stereotypes.
Please tell me that horrible Animal Practice is not getting picked up!!!!
So what happens when New Normal drops to a 1.5 tonight and keeps dropping?
Too bad the numbers came out and the new normal is the #1 new comedy in live + 3DVR – So take your shit can attitude cause your not working and put it somewhere else. It’s the best thing on TV.
If you actually think The New Normal is the best thing on TV, you are an unimaginable idiot. That show absolutely stinks.
I’d have to agree with Jargon on this one. It is dreadful.
They are the top three new shows for NBC right now. They deserve a full season pickup. Congrats!
Yay for Go On and The New Normal, two of the best shows on TV.
Hi NBC Plant!
Revolution seems to be evening its out. Turning into a good series. I hope it continues to grow!
So what does this mean for the Monday schedule in the second half of the year? Does Smash move or does Revolution?
Obviously Smash. Why move a hit in its first year for a show that barely survived the same timeslot last year?
Loved “New Normal” until the impossibly preachy-ass episode last week that felt like a conversation between a liberal and an imagined conservative spread out over a bunch of characters. Please never do that again as the other episodes were AWESOME.
Couldn’t agree more bounder. I’m so sick of the Dem/Rep fighting/spinning that I thought I’d tune in last week for a little escape in the “New Normal”. What do we get, but Ryan Murphy essentially doing an infomercial on which way he leans. We get it Ryan. You’re gay and voting for Obama. But keep it out of your shows. BTW, honestly tell me, what did BO do to further gay rights in the early part of his first term when he had the house and senate?
Animal Practice is a good show. I feel confident that NBC will give it a chance for at least a full season.
I hope the New Normal doesn’t get into a preach – liberal type thing. Geez. Smash will probably be moved to Monday at 9 pm.
The thing is I thought the episode was leaning towards Republicans because the gays came off as silly dudes and hypocrites. I guess everyone sees the things how they want to see them.
I thought they presented both sides well. Who wants to watch a show about Dad getting a promotion or the son having his teeth pulled. WHy not get political? Nothing else does. Do you want to watch another show about nothing?
I agree Kat. Thought it was fun. All in the Family did it and won awards. Norman Lear built his empire on it.
So excited about The New Normal, as I do think it’s the best new comedy this season.
But, I also think that Animal Practice is getting a lot of slack for reasons I can’t seem to find. It really is actually a very funny and smart comedy. It fits perfectly in with the “workplace” comedies that NBC does so well with, and I hope they give it a chance. Justin Kirk is too good waste.
I’m sorry, but REVOLUTION sucks.
I like Billy Burke. He always does good work, but this looks like a cleaned up CW version of Walking Dead minus the zombies. Everyone’s too pretty. Every location screams HOLLYWOOD SET!
Too bad Revolution films in North Carolina and Georgia. Unless they moved the Hollywood sign recently you might want to take a look at what a Hollywood set actually looks like.
The dude is right. This show is spic-and-span.
Too bad I wasn’t referring to the actual physical, geographical, location of the set. HOLLYWOOD SET = Looks fake.
Lots of NBC flacks on here, apparently. Although I really can’t judge any of these shows. Myself and 70 percent of my office have sworn off NBC so long as Jay Leno is still there. We’re mostly young, high income people, with the exception of two old, high income people.
Hysterical!!!
Go On is awful it’s dull as dishwater. Matthew Perry is no longer viable as a TV star he was only good on Friends. Mr. Sunshine was at least innovative it was better than Go On. NBC has nothing better to replace it with. Animal Practice is their worst show that should be the first thing they get rid of. They should dump all their scripted shows and just become the Reality TV Network. The shows are cheaper to make and get just as good ratings.
Always liked Matthew Perry but I can’t stand to look at his stupid, over exaggerative expressions..mugging?…Almost buffoonery. His best is laying back and tossing sarcastic barbs in an understated way.Cannot watch this show which looks like a poor man’s version of Charlie Sheen’s new show.
It’s easy to say you’re picking something up… then can it two episodes later when they flop.
Don’t view this as a vote of confidence, but rather, a confidence game.
I’m a gay man, and The New Normal is highly offensive to me, as is anything that hack Ryan Murphy excretes onto television.
Revolution is SUCH am amazing show. Glad to hear it got a new order. But i like Hawaii Five 0!!! I hope they both last
Revolution has to be one of the worst shows I’ve ever seen. Bland, boring and cheaply made don’t even begin to describe it. But then, NBC generally has such low ratings they live in a “we’ll take what we can get” world so to them no matter how bad a show does if it’s doing slightly better than average they crow about it like it’s ratings gold.
Agree agree agree. Revolution is beyond bad. I was shocked how bad it was. I could care less what happens to any of those characters.
And it’s good to know that A) The Apocalypse will be really clean.
B) Only hot people survive.
revolution is painful to watch, but like a car crash i just can’t look away . i’m at the point where i watch just so i can tell people how awful it is. this show insults the intelligence. anyone that likes it has given up and probably wears sweat pants in public and/or has a neck tattoo.
TNN is a great show, Ellen Barkin is funny, the little girl is adorable and NeNe is the new Florence from the Jeffersons all dressed up. I dont know much about AF but I met the Asian dude last week at a comedy club, he’s interesting….
I can see Revolution getting renewed and even Go On, but New Normal warranting a full season? Especially with that loudmouth batalax Barkin being on this show to top off the stupidity of the program? This must mean nothing more than NBC being desperate to fill in primetime holes. Like everyone says…NBC is Nothing But Crap!
I hope Guys with Kids get a full season
“NBC’s ‘The New Normal’ Gets Full-Season Order”
Another reason to stop watching NBC.
