EXCLUSIVE: As packages firm up for AFM, here’s one that will surely reverberate in Santa Monica. Robert Pattinson is signing on to star with Carey Mulligan in Hold On To Me. The film will be directed by James Marsh, who won an Oscar for the docu Man On Wire and followed with Project Nim. Pic is based on a true story about a femme fatale who with her boyfriend kidnaps and ransoms the town’s richest man. They bury him in a box and things go horribly awry. Pattinson plays the flashy supporting role of the woman’s life love, Jimmy, who isn’t involved in the crime. The project was scripted by Brad Ingelsby.
Alexandra Milchan is producing with Indian Paintbrush‘s Steven Rales, Mark Roybal and Michael Pruss. Also producing is Todd Field, who originally developed the film to direct but stepped off to helm Creed Of Violence for Cross Creek.
Pattinson adds this to an early 2013 schedule that will have him starring opposite Guy Pearce in the David Michod-directed The Rover, and he is also starring in Mission Blacklist, the true story of the U.S. military interrogator responsible for discovering the location of Saddam Hussein in the hunt for the fallen leader. He is repped by WME and 3 Arts.
New ‘Man Of Steel’ Television Spot #6

So happy to hear this. I’m a fan of both of them so this is a must see for me!
It’s a smart move but it sucks for Carey. From what I’ve seen he’s hardly a comparable match for her, talent wise. But I guess if she can work with Timberlake, she can work with Pattinson.
May I advise you to read some interviews with David Cronenberg (yes, THE David Cronenberg!!!) in which he praises Pattinson into heaven for his performance of Eric Packer in Cosmopolis? The director wants to make another movie with him and Viggo Mortensen. The big majority of critics have lauded this same performance, some even stating that he deserves an oscar nomination for it.
Apart from the film mentioned in the article, Pattinson is also gonna play T.E. Lawrence in a movie of Werner Herzog (Queen of the Desert). Not bad for a guy of his age. I think he and Carey will go on very well together.
Clearly you haven’t seen Cosmopolis. But something tells me you have a hard time identifying good talent anyway.
i do hope that in the upcoming movie she will prove i am not being fair to her:)
Did you seen Cosmopolis?
You might not think Pattinson is a match to Mulligan, but Rob is the one who will carry this movie to the box office not Carey.
Think hard before you said anything nasty to any actor. Rob will not be cast unless he can deliver. Several film assignment lineup for Rob, how about Carey?
Very happy for Rob. I believe he’s trying to build a good résumé with the best directors. Really excited for this one.
Oooo! A CANDY SNATCHERS remake!
Oh, wait. I guess it’s only a remake if you’re honest and upfront about where you’re getting your ideas, and pay for the rights to use them.
Another straight to DVD or “3 millions at box-office” movie for Pattinson that will be ignored by critics and public….
At first I thought that he will play that boyfriend. And then it’s some supporting role. He finally understood that he can’t play leading role and took the supporting with acclaimed actress.
I still laugh when I think about that “U.S. military interrogator” role. Sure. He will be totally believable. It’s like Halloween. I can put military uniform and be all like tough military chick. Even Rihanna was playing it…
Go see
Cosmopolis before making stupid remarks.
You are very ignorant if you think that Pattinson’s movies used to go “straight on DVD”. You really should look closer.
If so – critics do praise him, especially about his last work in Cronenbergs movie.
Do you have to be so mean?
Whatever role that an actor is taking, the role has to be offered to him first. The Director and Producers would have made the decision that he is right person to take up the role.
Obviously you don’t know much about an actors career. Someone who wants to be an actor, more than a star, doesn’t mind to play supporting roles as long as the director and script is good. Better playing a supporting role in a quality movie than a lead role in a crap movie. That’s what actors who love their job do: trying to play good parts. Or are you gonna say that Giamatti isn’t a good actor, just becaus he often plays supporting roles?
Actually, he’s kind of motoring along pretty well. What other actor his age has been part of two of the biggest franchises around, that’s just more than good luck. He got about the best review of almost any actor in Breaking Dawn 2 from the NYTimes. He has that something that is just a different take on things that is interesting. So I hope he continues to make movies in the future, hopefully a few that I can actually go find in the theaters easily!
It’s a minor supporting role. This is Carrey Mulligan’s film and she commits crimes while Pattinson plays the loser boyfriend (parallels to real life) who doesn’t even commit any crimes or do anything.
Pattinson plays the “flashy supporting role” of the woman’s life love, Jimmy, who isn’t involved in the crime.
Apparently his manager had to let this out of the bag right after all the “back together” stories and backlash he’s been receiving.
No , it was announced by this site with whom you are reading this news from.
lol the haters here… why so bitter?
Cronenberg, Michod, Herzog and now James Marsh. so many interesting projects with great directors but of course the haters know better than these experienced directors *sarcasm*
oh he is very smart to take soo many roles for next year … and he most definitely deserves an Oscar for his role in cosmopolis .. the movie was amazing!!
I love Mulligan and Pattinson can be great outside of Twilight. I actually really like the guy. I’m definitely interested, but they had me with Carey no matter what.
I think everyone should mind there on business and let Rob and Kristen live there lives. They really love each other.
Supporting roles are the most juicy roles : Christian Bale, Javier, Penelope Cruz all won Oscar for their supporting roles…
Pattinson and company are going to be embarrassed if they make Hold On To Me with the storyline as it is portrayed. Yes, it is based on a true story, but they have the facts just the OPPOSITE of what really happened.
