A peaceful protest by several thousand people closed Buckingham Palace Road in London for 3 hours on Sunday as demonstrators called for Google’s YouTube to remove the Innocence Of Muslims video that sparked deadly violence last month. According to UK media reports, this was the first in a planned series of civil actions against the film ahead of a million-person march in Hyde Park in the coming weeks. One organizer told The Telegraph that further protests will be held at other Google and YouTube offices. As many as 800 imams in mosques across Britain helped arrange the demonstration, the newspaper said. A YouTube spokesperson said: “We work hard to create a community everyone can enjoy and which also enables people to express different opinions. This can be a challenge because what’s OK in one country can be offensive elsewhere. This video – which is widely available on the Web – is clearly within our guidelines and so will stay on YouTube.”
A Brazilian judge last month ordered YouTube to pull the trailer from its website while the video and/or the site have been blocked in Iran, Libya, Egypt, Indonesia, India, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Yemen, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan. The U.S. has not banned the video based on the constitutional right to free speech.

Ever since google bought YouTube it’s turned into a big pervert site.

really?
Protest all you like. Western democracies will not let you force your views on others. We believe in freedom of speech, and went through hundreds of years of medieval ignorance and pain before we realized just how malevolent a force religion can be when it dominates society.
Sorry, but many “Western democracies”, including the UK, have already caved into people like this. I would be willling to bet everything I own that this video would be illegal in the UK. One only has to look at a recent case, for instance, of a man actually spending time in jail for using a racial slur on Twitter. So-called hate speech, a term used by those who are easily offended, is illegal in virtually every country in Europe. In the UK, it is illegal to insult(with insult being synonymous with “criticism”) a particular religion. Ever heard of the Racial and Religious Hatred Act? Of course you have. In other words, the UK has already caved. Thankfully Google is not based in the UK, as its board members would be facing charges of “defaming religion” or some such nonsense.
Tell them we want all of the mosques “yanked,” and see how they like it.
Because a bad and offensive internet video is the same thing as a mosque? Now, I don’t think Youtube should take the video, but that is a ridiculous comparison. Ridiculous. While I don’t think the video should come down, I do understand their outrage over it.
If a major studio or record label files an incorrect DMCA notice, YouTube won’t hesitate to pull down a video without ever consulting the uploader. But when it comes to this shameless thing, YouTube is suddenly acting like it gives a hoot about the rights of its users.
Johnny Ringo, that’s because most governments recognize copyright as a legally enforceable right. YouTube has no choice but to remove a video when the copyright is disputed. However, there is no right not to be offended, which is a shame because I was offended by the stupidity of your comment and would love to have it removed. See how subjective being offended is?
