With pre-emptions for coverage of the Sandy storm aftermath and continuing widespread power outages, fast national ratings for last night are only approximate. NBC posted a clear-cut victory in adults 18-49, winning every hour of primetime with The Voice (4.6/12, up 7% from last week) and an NBC News storm special (2.9/8).
Alarming news for ABC, none of whose shows cracked the 2 demo rating in the fast national. The news was worst for the fledgling 9-10 PM comedy block, whose members Happy Endings (1.4/4) and Don’t Trust The B—- (1.2/3) both tumbled, down 22% and 29% from their openers last week. Dancing With The Stars results (1.9/5) was down 5%, and a news special (1.3/3) closed out the night. ABC sure hopes for an upward adjustment, though no adjustment can erase the big drop-off for the comedies.
Fox experienced a similar fall for its 9-10 PM comedies that air against ABC ones as both blocks faced The Voice last night vs NBC comedies last Tuesday. New Girl (2.3/6) was down 15% from last week, while The Mindy Project (1.5/4) dove 21%. Meanwhile Fox’s 8-9 PM comedies held steady with last week — Raising Hope (1.7/5) and Ben And Kate (1.4/4).
CBS was stable. NCIS (3.4/9) was up 6%, NCIS: LA (2.8/7) was flat and Vegas (1.7/4) was up a tenth. CBS won the night in total viewers. On the CW, Hart Of Dixie (0.6) was up a tenth, Emily Owens M.D. (0.3) was flat.

Sad, scary numbers for a lot of these comedies. But then they’re just not funny so I guess you really can’t be surprised. Next year they’ll go to the same 30 people who gave us this crap to come off with some more crap that will be just as unfunny.
Yes but going with the same 30 people means they won’t lose their jobs, until they lose their jobs.
I agree. The same people pitch the same crap to the same people every year… they all stay employed and we continue to be treated to bad television. It’s a lovely circle.
What do Happy Endings, Girl in Apt 23, Mindy Project and Ben and Kate have in common besides awful ratings? Awful writing. New Girl gets the free pass because these are all so bad…against decent programming, New Girl would get exposed as well.
There are still a lot of people on the east coast without power – just think of all of the young professionals in NYC that couldn’t watch these shows. It probably had some impact as well.
Worst programming idea: Fox betting heavy on THE MINDY PROJECT
Best programming idea: NBC passing on THE MINDY PROJECT
Seriously, NO MORE Mindy Project. It is terrible. Oh, and let’s say goodbye to Don’t Trust the B – it is as clumsy, unfihished and unfunny as its dumb title. Krysten Ritter is great and has a long and successful career ahead of her, but this show stinks.
I can’t say I’m a Mindy Project fan but I blame FOX on this one. What did FOX expect would happen when they put a brand new series on hiatus for a month??..considering it was only pulling mediocre ratings to begin with?
