LOS ANGELES (October 18, 2012) — SAG-AFTRA announced that it has negotiated a contract specifically designed for SAG-AFTRA members and franchised talent agents nationwide. These products are being made available in order to assist those seeking additional insurance or for members who do not currently qualify for either the SAG-Producers Health Plan or AFTRA Health Plan.
In conjunction with Marsh U.S. Consumer, a broker and administrator of affinity insurance and membership programs, SAG-AFTRA has launched a new user-friendly “Health Mart” website that empowers members and franchised agents to access a multitude of competitive health care options with major insurers. SAG-AFTRA’s agreement with Marsh, which operates a U.S.-only call support center, provides insurance opportunities in many areas, including health, Medicare supplement, dental, home, auto, life and long-term care.
“In light of hardships caused by rising health care costs, we are excited about providing this one-stop online shop for health insurance options that we believe will prove beneficial to our members and to agents.” said SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director David White.
…
Earlier this year, the union also negotiated an agreement with Aflac, an indemnity/lump sum provider, to allow interested members and franchised agents access to supplemental insurance products at competitive rates and reduced underwriting.SAG-AFTRA members can learn more about available insurance options online by logging in to their member account at SAGAFTRA.org.

I really hate the dishonesty coming from my new union.
Like this statement:
“In light of hardships caused by rising health care costs, we are excited about providing this one-stop online shop for health insurance options that we believe will prove beneficial to our members and to agents.”
The real reason SAG-AFTRA members are having hardships, is because our duplicitous or incompetent(take your pick)SAG leadership did nothing, as AFTRA raided SAG’s jurisdiction. Now actors earnings are split between two health plans. Yes, the two unions merged but their heath plans didn’t. Part of the merger agreement even says that the new union must make an effort to maintain the earnings split, as it was in the 12 months preceding the merger!
If our leadership and our NED had been doing their jobs, actors would still be able to qualify for the SAG Plan.
What a con. Actors will now be permanently subsidizing the broadcaster’s Health and Retirement Plans.
No one’s fault but our own for not standing up. We made our bed, time to lay in it.
I’m not sure if you know but SAG and AFTRA share the same building down in Beverly Hills. The fact that AFTRA went in an undercut SAG during negotiations in 2008 is due to utter and pure incompetence and there’s no going back.
Too late. Sorry.
All the unions just need to burn. A union war sounds nice. Then we can all just see how we do without them to protect us with their lies. My guess? We won’t do well.
