Busy Hatfields & McCoys star Sam Reid is in negotiations to play a rebellious prophet who becomes the prime suspect in a murder investigation in writer-director David Barker’s The Second Coming. Sarah Snook (Jessabelle) will play a friend of Reid’s character Joe Panther. Due to shoot in Australia in early 2013, the film is based on a novel by Andrew Masterson. Aussie Reid recently completed filming Jonathan Teplitzky’s The Railway Man opposite Colin Firth, Nicole Kidman, Stellan Skarsgård and Jeremy Irvine and he co-stars with Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence in Susanne Bier’s Serena. He’s now in the UK playing the lead in Amma Assanteʼs Belle with Tom Wilkinson, Miranda Richardson, Matthew Goode and Emily Watson. He’ll segue to The Second Coming when Belle wraps. The Second Coming is produced by Aquarius Films’ Angie Fielder (Wish You Were Here). Co-producer Polly Staniford tells Deadline the film will be funded partly by Screen Australia, with LevelK handling foreign sales and Greenlight as the Australian distributor. The producers also aim to raise $A75,000 in gap financing from crowd-funding site Pozible. Reid is repped by UK agency The Rights House, Australia-based RGM Artists Group and Luber Roklin.
