With the Presidential campaign nearing its final stretch, Saturday Night Live‘s audiences are growing larger. Last night’s show, hosted by Bruno Mars and featuring a parody of the second Presidential debate, drew a 5.4 overnight rating/14 share in the metered-market households. That was SNL‘s highest household rating in more than seven months, since the March 3 telecast hosted by Lindsay Lohan. SNL‘s demo performance was not that strong. In the markets with Local People Meters, last night’s show averaged a 2.9/13 in adults 18-49, best since Sept. 22 when Joseph Gordon-Levitt was host.

I can’t say I am a fan of Bruno Mars, but he KILLED it last night! That man is a PERFORMER!
Exactly. He made a fan out of me. He is one talented guy.
I really had no idea who Bruno Mars was or what he was about.
I have to say, I was blown away.
An absolutely amazing performance.
His opening was flawless. As if rehearsed for months.
The PANDORA bit had him doing singing impersonations that were spot on.
Then he comes out and kills it as the musical guest.
After so many performers that seem like high school talent show runner-ups… It’s nice to know there are truly talented people out there.
Tom hanks was a special guest as well! Both him and Bruno were keeping me laughing the entire episode!
Haven’t watched it yet, but I hear the Pandora sketch is the funniest thing they’ve done all year.
Agreed, but the weakest writing of the season thus far. No longer do they have the comics to turn even the blandest of sketches into real laughs.
Bruno was outstanding. Music is his forte but acting/comedy is another talent he has. He’s actually a better comedy ensemble player than the hammy over-rated Timberlake.
I will say the writing was sub par. That first skit ended very randomly like it was incomplete but they used it anyways. The Pandora skit wasn’t actually ‘funny’ but it was enjoyable because of Bruno’s singing.
Unfortunately we got another Stefon skit where Hader laughs during the skit. The absolute biggest laugh from this skit happens when he laughs and not because of the actual joke/writing. I’m almost thinking he does it on purpose/allows it to happen because it’s not enough on its own. Retire the character please.
More Kate McKinnon please.
Thank you, JJJM , I couldn’t agree more. Justin Timberlake is only decent when he plays off his persona. When he is not playing off his persona, he is incredibly flat. Bruno Mars is an acting talent to watch- for sure . Bruno is a natural actor. He maybe my most favorite and versatile ( recent ) SNL host , since Anne Hathaway hosted ( a couple of years ago) . Both he and Hathaway made it look unbelievably easy to host SNL, when we know it is not. It is always nice to see young talent showing wonderful range. I believe this will be a major career booster for Mr. Mars.
Great performances in Pandora sketch. But acting/comedy chops? Please… There was no “there” there. Mugging into the camera does not a comedy performer make.
Hader laughs at his Stefon lines as it’s the first time he’s seeing them. The writer always changes many of the lines between rehearsal and air.
I can’t STAND when Timberlake shows up. Guy is terribly unfunny. Bruno handled himself flawlessly, and he’s some nice eye-candy, for sure.
Maybe the writers need to do more drugs. Was funnier when everyone should have been in rehab!
Seriously. The SNL writers (both sketch and weekend update) are painfully unfunny this season. Get those kids some drugs and some sweaty desperation!
Bruno was very good last night!!!! I like skits where they are cleaner>>>>>not dirty!! We need to laugh more, have fun, and not try to get down, dog and dirty.
Thank you.
Why no binders full of women sketch? Women’s issues will be forever changed in this election and nothing? Just too many Pitt parodies and a bad rap commercial? What the hell?
The new SNL cast is great and they are picking better hosts this year.
Not sure why they’re taking a break for one week. They should have episodes through the Saturday after election, then go on vacation for a couple of weeks. They lose momentum by taking a break.
His opening musical number was outstanding – I was blown away. Likewise, the two songs he did with a full band/strings, respectively. His acting is so-so, but not bad; with better writing, he would have done much better. Best show in quite a while. Favorite: Sad Mouse, LMAO!
Congratulations Brandon Creed for being the manager of the brilliant and charismatic
Bruno Mars!!
