EXCLUSIVE: The current fifth season of ABC Family‘s The Secret Life Of The American Teenager will be the series’ last. The drama from 7th Heaven creator Brenda Hampton was the breakout hit that put ABC Family on the scripted map when it premiered in June 2008. It also helped launch several of the next generation of successful ABC Family series. Additionally, it made a star out of lead Shailene Woodley, who went on to land the co-lead opposite George Clooney in The Descendants, a role that earned her much acclaim. I hear the feeling was that, after five seasons, Secret Life has run its course, leading to the cancellation. Season five of the show premiered in June when 11 episode ran. The final 12-episodes of Secret Life will begin airing in March.

Thank god! Such a crappy, annoying show. The fact that this stuck around while good stuff like Greek & Kyle XY for example got the chop was highly annoying.
Greek wasn’t cancelled, the producers wanted to end the show. And yes, finally!! I used to be a fan of SLOTAT but watching the fourth season felt like watching a soap opera in primetime. With even crappier writing

Excuse me but this was not a crappy show I loved it and am gonna miss it dearly. I do not see why they want to cancel it. I start watching and dont wanna stop thats how it started for me I watched the fist episode when it aired and i was stuck to it and I will be lost without it. so so so sad

I’m so sad the series is ending. Brenda Hampton has become a terrible writer the past year. Things were never the same after Ben and Adrian’s baby was stillborn. That’s when it all went downhill.
With recycled characters from another (failed) show clogging up the mix, it became “The Dylan Show” and all the stupid, ADD-subplots lik Anne being gay and Amy suddenly not wanting to get married, it’s just annoying. This show could have had so much potential. It used to be so amazing.
Though, I’d rather see it end than watch another season of “Dylan dylan dylan dylan dylan”.
Well like that Shailene will have full time to be a movie star !!
I just hope they will wrap up in a good way the show with this last season and that some actors (aside Shailene she is already about to be a A-lister) from this show, (yep the writing is/was laughable but the actors for the most part are likable on screen and can act with good material) will have some career. I would like to see Daren Kagasoff (playing Ricky) to have some great roles (tv, movies) the guy has charisma.

What a mistake ABC Family is making! This show was groundbreaking and had a stellar cast.led by the amazing character actor Steve Schirripa. He will definitely land a great role in a new tv show or film.

Yes her parents found out but there other seasons talk about her life with her baby & her completing high school.
The show was literally unwatchable last season. They had run out of story lines completely

Don’t get me wrong, I was huge fan for the first 3 seasons, but the show really ran its course. It started off as a beautiful show chronicling teen pregnancy, very truthfully in my opinion. But it turned into every other stereotypical show about sex crazed teens.
I agree. I became annoyed at how everything any of the characters ever talked or thought about was sex sex sex. I’m sorry but teens don’t just think about sex and teens’ lives don’t revolve around sex
Thank GOD. This show is HORRIBLE. It got so bad that I was down to watching it in 15 mins because I would skip to watch only the scenes with Amy & Ricky, sometimes Molly Ringwald and her husband, Adrian or the Ben & his father. The rest of the actors are horrible. I would like someone to do a count of how many times the kids said “sex” in one episode. Horribly, horribly written too.

Im 24 and a straight male. My wife and I enjoy it very much, we use the show as a moment to bond. It relates to life and for those who don’t like the show prob don’t or never been a committed relationship. It’s exciting and I believe abc family is ignorant. Let’s just devolope a show and allow it to get a strong fan base and than just kill it. Way to go abc great job done.

aww thats so sad to hear I wish they wouldnt cancel it. Ive been watching it sincr day one and its not a horrible show its just stating the facts cause that is whats going on in real life. The show did take a turn and didnt really like Dylan or her friends but im sure it could improve in the long run, I was even hoping they would air the show more oftn instead of waiting almost a year to see it
I don’t think it does state the facts of what’s going on in real life at all. I’m a girl in my final years of being a teen in college. I can assure you that a teen’s life does not revolve around sex like this show portrays. I enjoyed the first few seasons but after that it got really weird. I still enjoyed the scenes with Amy and Ricky but everything else just got terrible. I can also say that, when a guy tells a girl he loves her the girl doesn’t always just automatically believe him and it got a little out there that most of the characters fell in love with every person they started dating. I found that the only sensible character in the show was Ricky. I think the show had run its course, they could have added a few more episodes to end it better rather than leaving it where they did but some of the subplots they were adding in just got too far fetched
I am really glad this show is over. The writing was always pretty shitty, and the actors were atrocious. It was a nice concept, but it was executed so poorly. I mean, really, a 17 year old girl has a child, is married, AND lives with the father of her child? Ben and Adrian were having a baby, and they had their OWN place as teens?! Teen pregnancy happens. It’s just a fact, but who the hell lets their teenage kids live in their own place? The show was just unrealistic and a waste of a time slot; in addition, not every teenager in high school is pregnant, thinking about sex, having sex, or taking about sex. Why is it that every main character always dealt with the topic of sex? That’s not on teen minds 24/7.
I’ve seen all the seasons and it started out as a halfway decent show, but I never did like how every character talked about a certain topic or got involved in everyone elses business. It made the show seem way to unrealistic in my opinion. Yeah rumors spread, but they went over board. The gay stuff was also shoved down our throats, everybody was magically happy and ok with it on the show, but that’s just not how it is, so again that made the show to fake. Its time to end, but it was nice seeing Lucy(Beverly Mitchell) and Ruthie(Mackenzie Rosman) Camden again, 7th Heaven was awesome though it had a weak ending! SLOTAT just can’t compare to it!
I love the show it’s one of my fave shows I litterly ran home home today after my 5:00pm math class ended to see the holiday season of secret life of American teenager I love the show so much and John and Amy are my fave characters I’m sad the show is conning to an end iv never missed an episode of secret life I’m 19 years old and iv been watching the show sence I was 15 I’m in college now and it first came on when I was a freshmen in high school and I saw it and fell in love with show and almost all my friends love the show iv never felt this way about any other show so that’s shows you how detected of a fan I am I’m gonna miss watching secret life to bad it’s coming to end.

so i love this show from the beginning but i do believe that is has run its course. that the writer ran out of ideas and its not teaching teens anything anymore. with ricky and amy getting back together and “married” nd living happy ever after doesnt happen in real life all the time most teens are left with there child with no dad!
