EXCLUSIVE: Suddenly, The Descendants breakout Shailene Woodley has become the hot young actress in town. She’s in talks to play the Mary Jane role in The Amazing Spider-Man sequel, and now I hear she is negotiating to play the female lead in Divergent, the Veronica Roth novel that will be directed by Neil Burger for Summit Entertainment. Produced by Red Wagon partners Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher and adapted by Snow White And The Huntsman‘s Evan Daugherty, the book is compared to The Hunger Games because of the age of the characters and the violence that takes place in a futuristic setting. This tale takes place in a futuristic dystopia where society is divided into factions based on human traits. A 16-year-old leaves her faction to join a rival one, but during the violent initiation she falls in love with a young man and they try to find their place in this rough world. Paradigm reps Woodley.

That Descendants performance really fooled people. Nobody noticed that she spent 100+ episodes as one of the worst performers on Secret Life of the American Teenager, a show filled with remarkably bad performances. Now, she’s going to be stinking up movie screens for years to come.

Hopefully now the other poor kids on the cast of that show can get bigger and better roles too. Poor kids probably need therapy after dealing with Brenda Hampton’s “scripts” and dealing with her Bible-thumping for 5 long years.

I think Briana was comparing this actress to Kristin Stewart by saying that neither of them has the emotion or strength to play the parts they are cast for. I don’t really have an opinion on KS, but I really don’t feel like this person is right for Tris. She is nothing like I imagined and she looks too sweet and happy, if that makes sense. And if this Evan Peters person is who they are choosing as Four, then this is looking to be a very disappointing film.

I watched Shailene Woodley in The Secret Life…and was absolutely astounded at how bad of an actress she was. In a cast full of horrible actors, she stood out as the worst (really hard to do!), delivering her lines with a wooden, lifelessness I don’t think I’ve witnessed on television before. Truly, I had to go look up on imdb and see who this chick was…the acting was THAT bad.
I honestly don’t know how The Secret Life made it thru 5 seasons. I suppose if the equally-hokey 7th Heaven lasted 11 years, anything is possible.
But I have to reiterate just how dumbfounded I am that this chick is finding quality work after that series. Mystifying.
Ugh she is a horrible actress, this news makes me sad. Gonna ruin a potentially great movie with terrible casting it looks like.

Tris isnt suppost to be pretty, the book describes her as a 16 year old that looks like a little girl. If this is who will play her im not gonna watch it. While i read the book i saw everybody in my head and she is the opposit.

Ugh, no she’s such a terrible actress and way too cute sweet and simple to be Tris. Tris has a hard side to her that she finds in Divergent and Woodley I do not think could deliver the performance of strength, we need another Jennifer Lawrence from hunger games type girl, tough exterior yet sweet when needed, in reverse. Someone like Chloe Grace Moretz would be fantastic.

I think she’s a great actress! She was great in the Descendents and I haven’t seen her show on ABC so I can’t comment on that.
She’s a surprising candidate for Tris but I’m excited! I think she can pull it off!! She does look really young for her age so playing 16 years old shouldn’t be an issue.
Initially, people weren’t that accepting of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss either. And she looks quite old for 16 year old Katniss too so Shailene isn’t an issue with the age. So I’m sure she’ll be great!!

I love Shailene but I don’t know if I like her for Tris. Maybe she’ll do a good job. Who knows. But I say “HELL NO!!!!!” to Evan Peters!! I’m sorry, nothing personal, but NO!! He’s too dorky to play Four! Just my opinion. They better not screw this up like they did Twilight by casting Kristen Stewart as Bella! At least they did good casting Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games. I hope they pick the right people. Talent and looks. Not just one or the other.

Terrible, seriously who was the casting agent for this movie. I have been searching for one Divergent fan that is actually glad this ‘secret life’ girl will be Tris, and I am yet to find one. It should have been a no-name new actress that we can easily associate with Tris and now some terrible actor that all of us already see as that girl from that teenage pregnancy show on ABC family. Seriously, I would rather they didn’t even make a movie.
