Oy. Gone are the times when the trailer was about the mystery aura created by the few elements you knew about the upcoming movie.
There should have been a “spoilers alert” flashing red sign at the bottom of the frame.
I know the first, second, third act; i know that the villain will be disguised to fool the protagonists, and what disguise he will be wearing, i now know half of the James Bond come-back lines (and they’re not that great to begin with), etc…
Worked for me.
And, Ben, the story is not unique…it is the way it is told…and, this looks like a lot of fun for Bond fans like me.
That being said, I do admire your in depth analysis of this trailer.
Agree with you Ben — to an extent. We need to find our way back to the air of mystery surrounding a new film, not unlike the classic ALIEN campaign: “In space, no one can hear you scream.” After that tease, how could you NOT want to see that film?
However, there are huge, unexpected plot twists in SKYFALL’s third act. All of which should shake up the 007 mythos from here on.
MINOR SPOILER…
For instance, we’ll learn that “Skyfall” is the name of Bond’s childhood home, wherein much of the film’s climax will take place.
You’re right, though. Trailers today are more than happy to strip bare for the first viable customer waving his dollar in the air.
Wow! Any concerns I had about Thomas Newman scoring this film have now been assuaged. Can’t wait for opening day!!!!
Looks too serious, with no sense of fun. But Daniel Craig has never come across with the requisite Bond self-deprecating dry humor.
I hope it’s better than Quantum of Solace, the worst Bond film in a generation.
This does look good. Can’t say the same for that last one — as indecipherable as the first Mission Impossible film.
Lookin’ forward to seeing this.
Ben: I have a friend who avoids each and every Bond trailer so he can be surprised exactly as you’d like to be. He is a strong person. I am not. I watch each and every Bond trailer because I can’t not watch ‘em. Just can’t. Yeah, I guess you can figure out what means what (my only gripe was revealing the Silence Of The Lamb-esque holding tank). If you want to be surprised? You must be strong.
Daniel Craig looks like the stereotypical KGB agent from a B-movie – he’s completely miscast as James Bond.
Pierce, come back!!
Kind of late to be complaining about that now, isn’t it?
