EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures is in negotiations to turn Little House On The Prairie into a feature film that David Gordon Green will direct with Abi Morgan writing the script. Scott Rudin will produce with Trip Friendly. The deal hasn’t happened yet, but they are working toward giving the pioneer family a big screen incarnation.
Little House On The Prairie is based on the semi-autobiographical classic children’s book series by Laura Ingalls Wilder written between 1932 and 1943 about farm life in the late 19th Century American West. The books formed the basis for a TV series that ran from 1974-1983 and starred Michael Landon, and Melissa Gilbert as Laura Ingalls Wilder. Morgan, repped by CAA and Independent Talent Group, last scripted the Steve McQueen-directed Michael Fassbender-starrer Shame, and the Phyllida Lloyd-directed The Iron Lady, which starred Meryl Streep. As for Green, he’s been focusing on comedies with Pineapple Express, The Sitter, Your Highness and Eastbound & Down, and is repped by CAA and Gotham Group.

Come on. Really?
It’s rough to watch a genuinely talented director like DGG have a career of such diminishing creative returns. I remember seeing ALL THE REAL GIRLS at Sundance and thinking it was going to be such a joy to watch this guy grow and stretch.
The show ended almost 30 years ago. It’s out on DVD. Why in heaven’s name do we need to see a movie about it?
Because Little House on the Prairie is an AMAZING series! The books especially. It’s iconic and something everyone can relate to. Maybe we all need a reminder of good values and morals. I just hope they don’t ruin it.
Yay! Hope they can crack it for the big screen. Worked on this years ago at Uni with Horton Foote scripting…Ed Friendly was always a gentleman, so good to see the project still kicking…
Oof. Talented crew, pointless project.
This is a great idea. Nice to be excited about a DGG project again, it’s been a LONG time.
awesome. film it in 3D while you’re at it. yeah, that’ll help.
I’m excited to see another “Little House” movie, because a) I’m such a fan, and b) I didn’t like the preachy direction the TV series quickly went. I look forward to seeing what they do with it. I also enjoyed the “Beyond the Prairie” TV movies and the 2005 “Little House” miniseries on ABC. I can see how people who don’t love this story like I do may feel it’s been overdone.
I hope it does works
Toward the end it seem every Little House episode seem in Novelera crying scene at the end LOL!
I am always interested in new movie versions of Little House, and I love these books and her life history. Maybe this one will be better than the syrupy Michael Landon version? I liked Michael all right, but I hated that show. It was so syrupy-sweet it turned my stomach! A little more realism in this new one will be nice.
I am so thrilled I can hardly stand it. It is about time a new generation of young people are introduced (and older people re-introduced) to the wonders of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s book. I guarantee readers and history/Americana buffs will flock in droves to a new Little House film.
Loved this book as a young girl. I think today’s tweens would love to see this book become a movie and I predict it will be very successful.
I would like to see a new little house on the prairie. I would like to see Melissa Gilbert and Melissa Sue Anderson and the Greenbush twins in the movie that would be good. Have a family reunion with them.
I like little house on the prairie.
do you know how we can audition? because i am SUCH a big lhotp fan and i have a had people tell me ( and I think so also) that i would be a perfect laura
I’m so excited to see a new LHOP movie! So when is is it coming out?
