Syfy and Hulu have acquired Primeval: New World. Syfy has picked up the US basic cable rights to the Primeval spinoff series for a 2013 premiere. It joins a growing slate of acquired series on the sci-fi cable network, including Lost Girl, Merlin and the upcoming Sinbad. The original Primeval series aired on BBC America where it was a top draw. Syfy sibling Hulu has acquired the SVOD and AVOD U.S. rights to Primeval: New World for its Hulu and Hulu Plus services. The deals were made by Entertainment One, which distributes the series produced by Omnifilm Entertainment.
The 13-episode Primeval: New World stars Niall Matter (Eureka), Sara Canning (The Vampire Diaries) and Danny Rahim (Young James Herriot) as a team of animal experts and scientists investigating paranormal events, while battling both prehistoric and futuristic creatures. Based on the original series from Impossible Pictures, Primeval: New World’s creative team is led by Executive Producers Martin Wood (Sanctuary) and Gillian Horvath (Sanctuary). The spin-off was created by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens (Star Trek: Enterprise). Heading into MIPCOM, eOne announced a number of other international sales for Primeval: New World, including NRJ12 (free digital rights) in France.

The original show, first season, was interesting and had possibilites. Then it began jumping all over the place during the second. And finally it became something of a joke. The special effects were great, the stories weren’t and it just sort of lost steam and any interest. Wonder if this “re-boot” has any chance.
Given that there has only been your comment here in the past fortnight RPF, i don’t think there is that much interest in the show in the US at least among people who read deadline. And it would do good to learn what a re-boot is and isn’t. Dallas is a continuation. Primeval New World is a straight-up spin-off. And yet people such as yourself call them “re-boot”.
Cheers to Nellie for understanding that buying rights to a show doesn’t make it an original of the buying channel. As a Canadian it is so annoying to see Syfy call Lost Girl an original series of theirs. I would imagine a few Brits feeling similarly put-off regarding Syfy claiming Merlin as their own.
Sinbad was actually on in Canada same-day as UK. Other than Merlin and Sinbad, i think every first-run scripted show on Syfy these days is either Canadian or made in Canada by UCP. As such, it doesn’t surprise me at all that Syfy picked up Primeval New World.
I love the all the Primeval series and cant wait for new world to start will be disappointed if it doesn’t air in Australia
Give me a break! Primeval is an action show with the camera never staying in the same sport for over two seconds. with other shows the actors talk and talk and i look at my watch.
Primeval was an extremely successful show in the UK. The characters were great and it lost it’s way due to the drop in Special Effects budgets – it is a very expensive series to make. The characters Connor and Abbey were great. It has cult following in the UK and as one series I can actually sit down and watch with my 12 year old son the new one is sure to be a success as long as it’s given a chance.
If you had seen ever episode of the previous Primeval’s and followed the story lines you would know what a good series it actually is.
Primeval was great fun and my grandkids and I looked forward to every new episode. We are excited about the spin-off.
I’ve been watching the original “Primeval” series on Netflix here in the U.S. I’ve been looking for info on when either Syfy or Hulu Plus (I have both) will be airing the new series. I’m really looking forward to watching it!
Love Primeval and New world both, Checking for date it well run in the USA, Don’t care who owns rights when and who is going to air show.
Here in the US the powers of hollywierd prevent good foreign entertainment from being aired in the USA my guess is they don’t want to be shown up for us the fans we loose but there is hope thanks to the Internet
I have all the original Primeval Series and thought that they were great. As with every series you will have some episodes that are not as good as others, but overall I loved Primeval. The spin off, Primeval New World has to follow the basic storyline of Primeval and from what I have seen so far I like it a lot. I hope this spin off doesn’t become just another “formula” series where it is the same story line with a different creature, etc. There is a lot that can be done to make this series exciting and entertaining enough to make it a long running series like Primeval was.
The main character is a man named Daniel. When you look at his eyes, you’re looking into the eyes of a man who has seen Hell. There are moments when he looks like he’s about to begin screaming at any second, and never stop. The first time you see this is in episode one, when he’s about to leave the prison. The guard is treating him like a human being, and it’s evident this hasn’t happened in an extremely long time. You see the confusion on his face as he wrestles with suddenly being treated decently by the same people who have treated him like an animal for years. He can’t quite process it. I know that look well. As he’s about to leave the prison, the guard helps him tie his necktie, as he can no longer remember how to do it himself.
