Ted‘s worldwide gross reached an estimated $469 million today. That puts the Universal/Media Rights Capital comedy ahead of the previous recordholder, Warner Bros’ The Hangover and its $467.5M. So that makes Ted now the #1 highest grossing R-rated original comedy of all time around the globe. Ted went over the top by opening #1 or #2 this weekend in France, Belgium and Switzerland. The Seth MacFarlane pic starring Mark Wahlberg is now open in 44 international territories. and its international total is now $250.5M (after adding $13.9M at 2,900 dates this weekend). Pic still has 4 territories yet to open - including Malaysia on October 18th, India on October 26th, Venezuela on December 21th, and Japan in January. Domestically, the film is now in Week 16 with a cume at the end of this weekend estimated to be $218.5M.Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

Good. It deserves every penny its made.
I’m embarrassed for our culture.
Ranking 2012′s Ted as the #1 grossing R-rated original comedy of all-time makes sense only if you believe that no inflation has occurred since Beverly Hills Cop grossed over $316MM worldwide in 1984, or over $700MM in 2012 U.S. dollars. (Which is to say, it makes no sense at all.)
That’s amazing, what else will Seth do…
Broadway next!
I’m also embarrassed for our culture. This was one of the worst films I’ve ever seen– shows how stupid and mindless American comedies have become. Here’s hoping the South Park guys get into live action, they could literally wipe the floor with Seth talent wise and he knows it.
Is this a call to arms to get a script for Baseketball 2 green lit?
Oh you mean like BASEketball? or Orgazmo? How did those do again?
Hate to break it to you but the South Park guys have already done live action…http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0124819/
As for “Ted” just goes to show you never know what will get over these days. I’ll bet Fox is kicking themselves that they passed.
BASEketball.
“(Insert expletive)!”…20th Century Fox Executive.
With the exception of the Flash Gordon and the supermarket boss scenes, it was ok.
Is the version playing overseas considerably different than the U.S. one? I’m seriously asking this. I don’t understand how a film this loaded with American pop culture references is so popular in other countries. I mean, I don’t understand how they get the jokes.
Supposedly they dubbed the movie with a lot of region appropriate humor to help it play better with international audiences. Smart move.
Apache helicopter line was all time
The headline “Biggest R-Rated original Comedy” Is misleading.
It may be biggest by today’s inflated ticket prices, but not by actual attendance.
They did live action…Orgazmo, and Baseketball. Don’t remember em? Well that says ab
Cont. from above.
-out as much as needs to be said about their stint into live action.
Your going to have to wait around 5 years when the Book of Mormon hits screens.
But how can you be ‘embarrassed for our culture’ when Ted has made over 53% of its money outside of the us?
That’s a lot of cultures to be embarrassed for.
Actually I found Ted to be very funny. I laughed so hard almost the entire movie. Never seen an episode of Family Guy in my life, but if the show is similar to this I gotta start to. Think comedies are very subjective, either you find them funny or you don’t. I didn’t find the first Hangover to be hilarious but funny enough, the second, was certainly not funny. Think Ted deserves this as it looks like people like it.
It’s so unfortunate that such a crude film filled with stupid, boorish characters has offended a delicate, cultured flower such as yourself. Southpark is funny no doubt but Seth M has taken high brow humor and pooped all over it. That is why Family Guy has become a cultural touchstone. As for your wish for something “live action” from Stone and Parker…one word…BASKETTball.
One of the funniest movies…ever. I loved The Hangover, but this was miles better.
I didn’t laugh once. Not because of the raunchy humor. I love raunchy humor. This movie just wasn’t funny.
waa waaa waaa waa im in a club that MAKES ME go and watch movies waa waaa waa .. NOBODY makes ANY of you watch movies you don’t like. NOBODY.
People are so fast to bash Americans’ tastes, but this just solidifies the argument that the whole world loves the same crap. It’s not just Americans.
Ted was awesome! For all of the “cultural elite” comments frowning away remind me of another imaginary friend – “Oscar the grouch.”
Yeah it was horribly directed. All 2 shots and the production design was off the charts awful. The worst part? We’ll have to suffer through Ted #2, Ted #, Ted #4, ad infinitum
I think the success is largely due to the return of Sam Jones as the earthling Flash Gordon! Hail Flash! Never saw a single episode of Family Guy, but you’ve got to hand it to Seth MacFarlane. This guy’s riding a gravy train with biscuit wheels.
