The founder of Turner Broadcasting — and, arguably, the cable programming industry — tells Charlie Rose today on CBS This Morning that he wishes CNN had “a little less fluff.” But he lost control of the news channel when Time Warner merged with AOL, his biggest regret as a businessman. As for politics, Ted Turner says President Obama and GOP challenger Mitt Romney are “both smart and attractive and either one would do a pretty decent job.” But he sides with Obama because he’s “better on the environment and really and truly wants to end the wars.” Here’s a clip:

Ted Turner: They don’t make ‘em like that anymore.
I haven’t watched this yet, but darn it, doesn’t anyone ever ask him about Turner Broadcasting as a whole? It’s always CNN. Never MGM, Hanna-Barbera, Cartoon Network, TNT, various other acquisitions. I have his book, but I’d like to hear some more insights on the non-CNN aspects of his career before he croaks. Love that man.
CNN was Ted Turner. The others you mentioned were acquisitions.
CNN was Ted’s baby and he raised it well. Unfortunately, the corporate culture of AOL Time Warner was fucked up from the start, and sadly, CNN is just a part of the collateral damage caused by the merger.
Ted Turner is an interesting man with lots of stories to tell, but CNN is the one which hurts Ted the most.
