The Closer co-star Jon Tenney is back at TNT as the male lead of the network’s pilot King And Maxwell. The project, from CBS TV Studios and NCIS honcho Shane Brennan, is adapted from characters created by bestselling author David Baldacci. In the vein of Moonlighting, it follows Sean King (Tenney) and Michelle Maxwell, who aren’t the typical pair of private investigators. Both are former secret service agents, and their unique skill set (not to mention their razor-sharp chemistry) often gives them a leg up on suspects and conventional law enforcement. Brennan wrote the script and executive produces, with Karen Spiegel and Grant Anderson producing and Baldacci serving as a consultant. Tenney, repped by UTA and KLWGN, played Agent Fritz Howard on The Closer for the flagship drama’s seven-season run and has reprised his role in guest appearances on The Closer spinoff Major Crimes. He also recently did an arc on HBO’s Newsroom.

Better casting than Cruise as Lee Childs’ “Reacher” — Tenney is kind of the way I picture King. (“Reacher” is 6’5″, 250 — Cruise…is not!)

It was uncomfortable to watch him on “Newsroom”. Far and away the weakest actor in any scene. He was the example of how mid range meeeh-actor pails in a scene with great actors. I winced every time he opened his mouth.
If your going to cull around for low profile mid- range- quote actors get one with some spark- Joel Gretch Steven Webber.

Can’t wait for the show to air. Jon Tenney adds so much flavor to a series. He will bring Baldacci’s character alive. Wish someone would do a remake of Spencer for Hire and cast Tenney as Spencer!
I have always thought Jon Tenney was undervalued. He is a great actor, if you watched the Closer closely. In terms of Newsroom, it was a nasty part….and he seems to be able to play anything..straight man, romantic lead, nasty guy, and he is completely believable. SO glad he is getting his due finally.
Great news for Jon Tenney that he got his own show. I’m a big fan of his portrayal of Fritz on The Closer. I always felt that he was underused on The Closer and deserved his own show. I agree with the above comments re: Major Crimes. It’s a bad attempt at keeping The Closer going with the loss of 3 major characters. It should have been cancelled at the end of last season. TNT, please bring back Southland, a far better show than Major Crimes.

I couldn’t agree more about casting Cruise as Jack Reacher. I have read several of the books, and Tom is pretty much the complete antithesis of the Reacher character as written. I like Tom, but for this role he is too short, too young, too little, and finally, too pretty! Does it show that this casting disappoints me?! lol
