Paramount Pictures has moved the release date for the Barbra Streisand-Seth Rogen comedy The Guilt Trip to December 19, 2012, six days earlier than its original December 25 date. It now will open against Buena Vista’s Monsters, Inc. (3D) and Sony/Columbia’s Zero Dark Thirty. The Anne Fletcher-directed pic (previously known as My Mother’s Curse) tells the story of an inventor (Rogen) who hits the road with his mother (Streisand) on a cross-country adventure as he tries to sell his new product. Along the way he reunites mom with a lost love. Dan Fogelman penned the screenplay.

This looks like a big hit. I can’t wait.
Another vote of confidence for a 90 minute comedy that spent a year and a half in editing at the reshoots.
That’s not the reason. Be informed before making comments.
Sigh. I’m informed enough to know this movie wrapped Summer 2011, and has subsequently spent 18 mos in post…
If her assistant’s posting here so feverishly, who’s answering Anne Fletcher’s phone?
Yo, anonymous — you don’t know what you’re taking about. The movie’s release has been delayed because Paramount knows it has a big Xmas-time hit on its hands. Wait and see and prepare to eat your ignorant words.
A hit? Seriously? When was the last movie hit Barbara Streisand had? Have you suffered through this trailer? This looks worse than LIttle Fockers–if that’s possible. IMO.
really? when did facts not count? meet the fockers was huge. she was barely in little fockers… that’s why it stunk.
you have a lot of anger towards her… you one of the those converted gays?
The Guilt Trip is the first movie made specifically only for grandparents. But it’s going to make so much money.
This is going to be huge but so is Les Mis so wise move to separate them!! The Guilt trip will be a big success for Streisand and she is everywhere right now!!!!
As most anyone who uses his brain before penning ignorance knows, this movie’s release was delayed because the movie studio thought they had a hit and wanted to maximize this movie’s potential box office. Studios don’t “bury” movies at the holiday season. Studios bring out the big guns at the holidays. Then again, anyone with more than a passing knowledge of the movie business already knows that. Who knows if this movie will be a hit or not but the studio certainly believes it will be. If the studio wanted to “bury” this movie, it’s released would have been pushed back to the middle of January.
Regarding Ms. Streisand’s film career and lack of hits lately: it’s hard to have a hit film when you haven’t made any films. Ms. Streisand has not had a starring role in a movie since 1996. In the meantime she’s had a slew of hit albums and record setting concert tours as well as written a book (among many other professional, political and philanthropic endeavors). In today’s age of reality stars, it might be difficult to imagine but there was a time when talent could create superstardom. And yes, Ms. Streisand comes from that age. Whether or not this film lives up to Ms. Streisand’s considerable talents, I do not know. Unlike others here, I’ll wait until I see the film to review it. Although I will say: isn’t it refreshing that a 70 year old woman is headlining a big studio holiday comedy? Has that ever happened? Another “first” for Ms.Streisand?
The slogan “think before you speak” needs to be modified for the digital age. “Think before you write something stupid” are words of wisdom several commenters here should have followed. And waiting until you see a film before reviewing it always helps your credibility.
I’ve never understood why so many films open ON Christmas Day.
How many PLANTS can live on one site? This looks painfully bad. Holy crap!
I’m a huge Streisand fan, not a plant. What’s with all the negativity and anger? Wow. I can promise her fans have been hearing great things from screenings of this film for well over a year.
Thank goodness there’s another Jewish comedy about Jewish family dynamics written by and starring Jews. The drought breaks!
What’s your problem? They always tell you in Writing 101, write what you know. So maybe there are a lot of Jewish writers in Hollywood who know a thing or two about Jewish family dynamics. It generally makes for a good movie-going experience. If it didn’t work, they wouldn’t do it.
Streisand has her dragons to slay re: her reputation but she’s undeniably talented, and her and Rogen might be an interesting mix. I’m kinda intrigued.
