They meet again! After a scheduling move by NBC pitted the network’s The Voice and Fox’s The X Factor during their premiere week, the two singing competition series will go head-to-head again on Tuesday after Fox rescheduled tonight’s episode because of baseball rain delay. “It what’s known as a total f up,” is how X Factor Simon Cowell summed up the situation on Twitter.
Fox first attempted to air X Factor tonight as scheduled on the East Coast despite a baseball rain delay that bled into primetime. After getting word that Game 3 of NLCS wouldn’t resume before the end of Fox’s primetime at 10 PM ET, the network began airing X Factor on the East Coast at about 8:40 PM. But about an hour later, word came that the game would start momentarily, prompting Fox to pull the X Factor feed to switch back to baseball. However, the game did not start right away but after a portion of a Mindy Project repeat. Compounding Fox’s woes tonight, a technical error had the East Coast feed of The X Factor air simultaneously on the West Coast.
As a result, X Factor has been pre-empted on the West Coast tonight, with an X Factor repeat airing instead. Tonight’s conclusion of the “Judges’ Homes round will air in its entirety next Tuesday from 8-10 PM. In addition to facing the hourlong Tuesday edition of The Voice, X Factor will preempt Fox’s fledgling Tuesday comedy block. The 9-10 PM comedies New Girl and The Mindy Project were already pre-empted for the Presidential debate this week and will be again on Nov. 6 for Election night coverage. Now their return will be delayed for another week, a very disruptive move, especially for a new series. Several weeks of a forced hiatus for baseball and X Factor last fall zapped then-freshman New Girl‘s great momentum. The hot comedy was down in its return to the schedule and never recovered.

You would think a network that airs sports regularly would have plans in place for when one runs late.
lol you would think so, i don’t like watching overpaid baseball players for hours, its true the xfactor has overpaid judges but when it comes down to it, if you don’t like it change the channel, simple
Simon Cowell and X Factor are what is wrong with FOX. I love baseball. I hate that FOX has resorted to airing games in the afternoon just so they can air X Factor in primetime.
Bumping the FOX sitcoms next Tuesday to air X Factor? Not cool, FOX.
@Daniel – I agree with you re: love of baseball, hatred of X-Factor; however you are wrong about “fox resorting to airing games in the afternoon so they can air X Factor in primetime.” If a game is on Fox in the afternoon, it’s because a game is on Primetime on TBS. MLB staggers the start times of playoffs so both games don’t start at the same time. Yes, the end of one may bleed into the beginning of the other, but both are NEVER primetime at the same time.
And that Fox comedy block will only have one week to air (unless there is a game on oct. 30 or some other f up) before being preemtpted again for election night.
“Oh, the HORROR!” said all three people who don’t have DVRs.
A lot more than three, my unfunny buddy who does not realize that some people can’t afford DVRs, while others simply don’t want them.
Haven’t been able to afford them for 10 years? Not even with their satellite or cable package?
They don’t want them? Did they not want vcrs, dvd or blu-ray players either? You know, electricity isn’t really necessary either!
Go Cards! All these shows suck. You didn’t miss anything.
What will I do without Ben & Kate, said no one.
That show is damn funny, don’t be an asshole.
No one cares, nobody’s watching. Comment was hilarious.
Love Lucy Punch. Show not funny.
Yep, Ben and Kate is a real stinker.
Did you Watch Ben and Kate??? It’s really good!!! Give it a chance
CTV aired the entire episode in Canada, so all the finalists are now up on Wikipedia. (No complaining; its content-disclaimer page says bluntly, “Wikipedia contains spoilers.”) MASSIVE FAIL for Fox!
It only looked like CTV ran the full episode BUT in fact the ending was replaced with the ending from a previous audition show. The show didnt air in the West at all.
This is the best thing that could have happened to Ben and Kate and Mindy. Maybe now people will forget how awful they are. And by awful do I mean, “cool and hip and so on the inside?” No, I just mean awful.
Ben and Kate is not awful. Maybe it’s your sense of humor?
THE MINDY PROJECT and BEN & KATE are on their way out, anyway. This should speed up the inevitable.
Go Cards!
Go baseball!
Non-scripted nonscripted television! Heck I even enjoyed the tarps on the field better than the “show.”
you mean scripted ..nonscripted show. the x facotr screams of it.you can practically see the judges reading off the cue cards.and the voice has better talent this year also.
Utter fiasco.
There are highly paid people at Fox who are meant to have a back up plan in place… and they didn’t. They literally just sat there pressing buttons like monkeys.
We had 15 minutes of rain / commentary, Ben and Kate, 2/3 of X Factor and 5 mins of Mindy Project and then back to baseball.
X Factor will likely lose a million or so viewers as a result of this – and won’t get them back. It happened last year.
Why pay big bucks to Britney if you’re gonna screw the show anyway with bad scheduling?
Actually Canada cut the show off abruptly as we’ll. CTV came back from commercial but instead of baseball, ran the rest of an X factor repeat. Looked like a full show but the last part was an audition episode repeat.
Bumping my fav “Raising Hope” for this junk? NO!!!!
ARRGGHHH! Should have checked this while we were watching last night. We were so confused!
Also, new L&O SVU as much of a moralising fantasy as ever.
And they wonder why their ratings suck so bad…so they pre-empt a whole night for another show that was already pre-empted…so when will the Tuesday comedies air? I have Comcast an half the time their guide isn’t caught up in time, so even if I have these shows on season pass, it still doesn’t record them or records them at the wrong time
FOX is run by a bunch of old man muppets that don’t know what they are doing. They have had some successes fall in their incompetent laps, so they don’t get shitcanned. They really have no idea what they are doing.
FOX has obligations to airing the baseball playoffs first and foremost and yes, they should have planned this accordingly and aired this show at 8 PM ET and rerun programming in the following hour, but yet, they screwed up but glad it happened to X Factor, which is just a terrible show.
The only think more boring than baseball is watching paint dry!! nothing better than to see a child’s dream being crushed by pompous celebs.
