EXCLUSIVE: Universal Pictures has acquired an untitled comedy based on a pitch from Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson. She hatched the original idea and is attached to write, produce and star. After starring in Universal/Gold Circle’s sleeper comedy Pitch Perfect, Bachelorette and before that Bridesmaids, Wilson will next be seen in the Chris Colfer-written Struck By Lightning and the Michael Bay-directed Pain & Gain, which stars Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson.
Universal senior veep Erik Baiers is overseeing the project. Said Peter Cramer, Uni co-president of Production: “Rebel has become one of the hottest comedic actresses working today and we are thrilled to continue our relationship with her following her breakout performance in Bridesmaids and her scene stealing ‘Fat Amy’ in Pitch Perfect. We are especially excited that this project will feature her amazing talents both in front of and behind the camera.”
Wilson, who is writing and starring in the WBTV and Conaco pilot Super Fun Night for ABC, is represented by WME and managers David Becky and Nick Frenkel of 3 Arts Entertainment. Conan O’Brien, David Kissinger & Jeff Ross are exec producing that one and John Riggi is the showrunner.

Overrated. This girl has one note and it’s getting old.
I thought to myself.. How is she going to star in 2 shows at once? Does it mean that she is dropping out of Super Fun Night? Then the DUH moment came…. It’s a movie pitch! Hahah.
I’m excited. I like Rebel Wilson. Hope her show gets picked up.
Rebel Wilson clearly has huge international appeal, good move Universal. Her role in Pitch Perfect clearly shows her huge potential.
I’ve loved this girl since I saw her in Bridesmaids! I don’t know what cave she came out of but she’s hilarious and fascinating!!!!!
That cave of which you speak is Sydney, Australia. Funny funny girl. Us aussies know how to breed funny people.
You could not be more wrong. She is brilliant. From her interviews to her actual roles she keeps me and everyone in my family laughing. She entertains all ages and me and my friends make everything she’s in a must see. She’s phenomenal at what she does. One of the est comedians out there
She was in Bridesmaids? … Obviously didn’t register with the millions who saw it. I’ve never heard of her.
Wow, really? She was the girl who was Kristen Wiig’s roommate along with her brother.
Hilarious. I hope we see even more of Rebel Wilson in the coming year! She’s awesome!
“We’d like to invite you to no longer live with us anymore.”
I’m not a fan but she’s doing a great job at choosing roles. It’s been a nice come-up for her so far and she obviously has appeal to women. I thought she was going to be a minor star, and it looks like it’s going to happen for her.
I love her! She is an amazing comedic actress. I hope this movie is a huge international hit for her.
But moreso I hope that her comedy pilot Super Fun Night gets picked up at ABC after CBS turned it down last season. ABC cannot pass up this girl. It would be a hilarious show and I’m sure it would be a smash hit that CBS would be kicking themselves over.
She garbled her jokes and was generally just there in Pitch Perfect.
Clearly it did register if she’s getting all of these deals and roles out of her small Bridesmaids role as Wiig’s roommate’s sister.
“I thought it was a sad, hand-written book.”
So great. I’ve been laughing the last two minutes at your mention of that line in Bridesmaids. The few here who didn’t notice her in that movie have no clue what’s funny. No other explanation.
I thought SUPER HAPPY FUN NIGHT was dead after it didn’t get picked up last season. Is it still alive?
Still very much alive at ABC. John Riggi onboard as show runner. They are casting now.
I saw ‘Pitch Perfect’ over the weekend and really liked it. One reason this movie works so well is Rebel Wilson’s comedic timing. Trust me, she has the funniest lines in the movie. If you’d like to check out my movie review of ‘Pitch Perfect,’ simply Google my name.
Who?
If you saw “Bridesmaids” and didn’t notice Rebel Wilson, please go back and watch. She IS, as others have stated, brilliant. And once you see “Pitch Perfect,” you’ll come away loving her all the more. Truly a comedic force with such potential. Best of luck to Rebel on this film project and the series potential for “Super Fun Night.”
Love her–she is soooo funny!!!!!!!
