EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros. has hired Jay Chandrasekhar to rewrite and direct Yogi Bear 2. The sequel is being produced by Donald Deline and Karen Rosenfelt. The Eric Brevig-directed 2010 film grossed just over $200 million worldwide.
Chandrasekhar, best known for his work with the Broken Lizard comedy troupe, most recently directed The Babymakers, starring Paul Schneider and Olivia Munn. For Warner Bros, he directed Dukes Of Hazzard. Chandrasekhar also has been busy directing episodes of Up All Night, Royal Pains, and Community. Jon Berg will oversee for the studio. Chandrasekhar is repped by UTA, Gotham Group and Sloss Law.

Oh dear. WB really has no idea what they’re doing in the family films/animation space. The first Yogi Bear was awful. Hopefully, they will find some help. This project does not look like they’ve found it.
That worked out so well for Dukes and Babymakers…
Feels like the kind of story where you can’t help but feel a bit, “Oh, sad how the mighty have fallen” or “THIS is how they spend their talent?” but I’ll bet everyone’s getting paid full freight, health insurance rolls on for a lot of people, a team of animators gets a solid chunk of work, etc., so hey, YAY!
Here’s hoping Jay figures out how to one-up the last one’s viral marketing bit with Yogi getting the “Assassination of Jesse James” treatment from Boo-Bo.
I bet there’s already a “Honey Boo Boo” joke in the script. And, if there isn’t, there should be.
Because the first one left so many unanswered questions.

“Every successful animated children’s film needs to have a sequel, and audiences will flock out to see the sequel just like they did the first time.”
- The producers of ‘Happy Feet 2′, ‘Hoodwinked Too’, and ‘Kung Fu Panda 2′ (though foreign grosses probably saved that one)
YES!!! QUICKDRAW MCGARW MUST MAKE A CAMEO APPEARANCE.
You’ve got to be kidding. 1 Yogi Bear was bad enough.
Why is this even being considered let alone brought back for a sequel? The first one sucked balls and this new one won’t do any better and YET, another example of Hollywood recycling ideas and not coming up with something new and original.
