To Francis: May I add that plenty of entertainers, besides entertaining, “contribute to the health and well being of their city” in other ways. Bette Midler,for one, ha spent millions restoring and constructing beautiful gardens throughout hr city. Letterman, in contrast,has othing more than drench his city, and the entire USA, with his puerile cynicism for decades.. I’ll be glad to “lighten up, Francis, when you grow up. That’s right. The first day back on the air after Sept 11, 2001, Dan Rather burst into tears on Letterman, and the day after that Dave was cracking jokes again……

Why not perform the monologue with a laugh track? Just cut between the canned laughs and an empty theater. Now that’s funny!

I was curious and watched until he started back in as usual with his one-sided, liberal politics and I had to turn it off. I used to be a big fan of Letterman, but now I just can’t stomach the show anymore.
