ABC, which has one family comedy with a male lead on the air in Tim Allen’s Last Man Standing, is developing another multi-camera family half-hour centered on a guy played by a stand-up comedian. The network has bought Big Children, written/executive produced by Scott Marder (It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia) and starring actor-comedian Rory Scovel (The Life And Times Of Tim). Produced by ABC Studios, it centers on a thirtysomething “only child” (Scovel) who must move home and parent his parents after they retire and revert to acting like children with too much time on their hands. Scovel is repped by CAA, which also reps Marder, Mosaic and Isaac Dunham.

It was only a matter of time before Rory Scovel got set up somewhere. I’ve been a fan of his stand-up for years. Truly talented congrats.
If you are not familiar with him watch his routine from Live at Gotham, or watch Youtube clips like the one where he does stand-up in the lobby of a hotel.
Isn’t Ed O’Neill the lead on Modern Family?
Congrats Scott!
Huge potential to be outrageously funny here.
Yep, Rory is amazing. Well-deserved.
Congrats to the writer for selling the exact same pilot every other network has purchased a dozen times over this year.
Man Child! Yes! Nothing better than watching a lazy POS do-nothing have to move home with his family. LOVE IT!!!! Hilarity ensues!
Congrats to the bitter zilch that makes spiteful comments on Deadline pilot announcements! Don’t worry, I’m sure your super-original, cross-genre time-traveling romcomdramedy pilot spec will get picked up eventually. But until then, stuff it, turkey!
How many pilots this year revolve around some messed up adult moving back home to live with their parents and reconnect with their hometown? Seriously. It’s ridiculous now.
Yes, it was the part about “reconnectint with (his) hometown” that sounded really familiar. Oh, wait – there’s no mention of that.
Congratulations Scott!!! This is going to be a great addition to ABC!!
And…regarding the above comment…Ed o’neil is part of an ensemble, and Modern Family isn’t multi-cam.
Joy, I think I know you
Actually…if you read the description of the show, you will see that the son isn’t moving home because he is lazy, he is moving home to ‘parent his parents’ who are the ones acting like children….so no….not the same script/pilot AT ALL!
I feel sorry for my generation — being made out to be lazy do-nothings over and over again for yucks.
What happened to being men?
I don’t even understand your comment. This show has nothing to do about laziness. It has to do with someone successful that has to take care of his parents. Read things before commenting.
Rory has busted his ass for years to get where he is, all the while remaining a great dude, and a good friend to a lot of people. If this makes it to air, it WILL be a success. These 2 are simply too talented for it not to be.
Rory- that is awesome!
Was doing comedy with him in DC 7 years ago. Saw him for the first time in 3 years outside of Best Fish Taco’s in Ensenada, where he was making 150 people crack up outside a taco stand with a mic and amp. this guy is the REAL DEAL, and I know the show will be funny!
Wishing the best for Scott Marder. He has shown such achievement with “Always Sunny…”. There’s a lot of potential for this plot line. Yes…used before, but Marder’s take on it has great promise, given his approach to his other works. I think he should develop the cousin/doctor character to full maturity to assure success of the series.
This is gonna be good. Marder is the man and Scovel is awesome. These 2 will crush it!
Way to go Pops!!! Luv u
Way to go Joy!!! What a jerk that person is, no clue how very talented Marder is. Doesn’t have any idea about the show. It will be FAB.
Scovel will be great here and the storyline sounds hysterical. Congrats to all!
