ABC has handed out its second full-season order to a freshman show this season, drama Nashville, starring Connie Britton. The soap, created by Callie Khouri, was one of the best reviewed new shows this fall. It was a late starter, held back two weeks because of presidential debate coverage. Nashville has been soft in the ratings but had an 11% ratings uptick last week to a 2.0 in adults 18-49 rating. The show went through growing pains, including a showrunner change, with Dee Johnson replacing Jim Parriott.
Nashville joins freshman ABC comedy The Neighbors, which also has received a full-season pickup. Also recently getting a full-season pickup was sophomore Scandal, which started off with a 13-episode second-season order. Waiting word are new dramas Last Resort and 666 Park Ave. Both shows are on the fence (ABC doesn’t own either of them but does own Nashville), with Last Resort looking a little more likely to get some sort of a back order. New ABC comedy Malibu Country and sophomore Last Man Standing, which premiered two weeks ago, just received orders for 3 scripts each.
With help from DVR viewing, Nashville is No. 1 in its Wednesday 10 PM time period among Adults 18-49 (3.2/9), beating CBS’ veteran CSI (3.1/9) and NBC’s freshman Chicago Fire (2.4/7), as well as adults 18-34. Overall for the season, Nashville ranks among the Top 3 new TV series in Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34. Nashville is produced by Lionsgate TV, ABC Studios and Gaylord Entertainment, with Dee Johnson, R.J. Cutler, Callie Khouri and Steve Buchanan executive producing.

It is oxymoronic to say that the show is number one in its time period with the help of DVR. Time shifting may help it to a strong overall performance, but not at 10 p.m. on Wednesday. Advertisers need it to command the time slot not be an aided no. 1.
One of the best writers rooms in the biz. Congrats you guys!
Hallelujah! Never thought I would every enjoy a broadcast drama again until “Nashville” came along… Glad to hear it. Next up, “Last Resort”. .. How bout it, ABC?
I hope Last Resort gets more episodes or perferabley renewed. It is the only abc show that will be campatiable with Shield, which is shoe-in for next fall.
not a soap, I wish ABC would stop calling it that….I hope it ends up cancelled…the ratings are low…
Very happy to hear about Nashville. I would love to be in the writer’s room but until I am keep up the good work everyone. The acting is great, the music and singing is handled beautifully. I had my doubts about Eric Close in the pilot but he’s taken charge of his role. Connie Britton is just excellent. Also the young actors/singers/musicians. Talented and hot. And T. Bone Burnett? Doesn’t get better than that.
Nashville is a classic nighttime soap, and very well done. And who knew there were so many really good pop and country tunes just lying around, waiting to be recorded? And who knew these people could sing and play so well? Really fine effort. And no I don’t work there or know anyone who does.
Love this show, very glad and I really wish that Last Resort did better, it is my favorite show this season followed by Nashville of course, hopefully it goes up every week. Also watch 666 but only because its on sunday and watch Revenge and Once. Its not that good so I wouldn’t exactly be sad if it didn’t come back though the last episode was the best.
This the ONLY show I look forward to each week. If I miss it , I watch the episode on my computer the next day. I love the music and how it guides the story line. Fine songwriting and beautifully talented musicians! I love seeing the places I know in Nashville . Please don’t call it a soap….call it a drama. Please have Lennon and Maisy on more often. They are amazing!! Connie Briton is very very good. I liked her in Friday Night Lights , but love her in Nashtville. Great to see the real songwriter interviews on the website. Keep it comin’ !
What’s with this “please don’t call it a soap” thing? Do you think being a soap is bad? That’s pretty crappy of you, if so.
Congrats to Nashville, one of my favorite shows this year. Now come on, ABC — give a back order to Last Resort, my *favorite* new show this year!
For God’s sake, Dish Network, stop your SPAM campaign!
Last year Revenge, this year Nashville. Finally the shows I enjoy watching get full season orders.
The reason this show is doing abysmally in the ratings is that most of the characters, but especially Connie Britton’s, are not very likable.
The key to getting people to tune in week after week to a drama like this is for the to love almost everyone, no matter how flawed.
I loved Connie Britton on FNL, but this Rayna character is horrid. If they want to be on for season 2, they should do something about that.
Love Nashville and Connie Britton. Especially though, the little blond waitress is fantastic.
I really like The Neighbors too!
Why isn’t it ever mentioned that T Bone Burnett is in charge of the music? That’s why it’s so good!
Khoury has surrounded herself with some VERY talented people.
Hopefully it will rub off on her.
I love Nashville and can’t wait for it to come on each Wednesday night. I record it and sit and drink my coffee with the show the next morning. The characters are wonderful. I like each and every one of them. Especially romance and tension between Connie and Deacon. But they are all appealing and actually have great character. The music is wonderful and the scenery. I am so happy it is being continued. I even bought a Nashville kind of blouse and am considering cowboy boots at my age of 78.
This is my new favorite show and I look forward to watching it every week. My favorite part of the show is the romantic involvement (little as it is) between Rayna and Deacon. I love their singing together.
I wonder why the show isn’t listed to be on this Wed, Nov 21. I hope it returns next week.
Love love love this show…..fabulous…and I am not a huge country music fan either but I just love the music too…and can’t wait to see the romance grow between rayna and Deacon.
Why the reruns?? It is most irritating especially this week after taking it off the air last week for some
Academy Awards special
The season just started why are you playing re-runs?
Nashville is far and away the most spell binding show on right now.
