ABC has picked up five additional episodes each of Friday comedies Last Man Standing and Malibu Country. After a strong launch earlier this month, both sophomore Last Man and newbie Malibu Country have been sliding in the ratings, with a steeper decline for Malibu, which started off higher. Even so, with DVR viewing included, Last Man Standing ranks as the top-rated show in Friday’s 8 PM
half-hour with Adults 18-49 (2.1/7). Retaining 100% of its adult 18-49 lead-in (2.1/7)
from Last Man Standing and gaining viewers, Malibu Country starring Reba McEntire stands as TV’s most-watched freshman comedy this season (8.7 million). Part of the reason for the small back order is the fact that the two shows premiered more than a month after the beginning of the season, so ABC won’t need as many episodes. With their partial back orders, Last Man and Malibu Country join new drama Nashville and new comedy The Neighbors, which received full-season pickups with back-nine orders, as did sophomore drama Scandal. New dramas Last Resort and 666 Park Ave. have been cancelled.

Ew, I hate “Last Man Standing.” Gross.
An Ironic Comment Coming From Someone Who Signs Their Name As You Do.
Didn’t love the first episode of LAST MAN STANDING this season, but my daughter and I have liked every episode since then. We look forward to it every week so this is good news!
Still guessing these two shows won’t last past this season, despite the small back order pickup. Malibu is just terrible and not one of Reba’s strongest efforts as an actress and how Tim Allen keeps surviving is beyond me.
Now ABC needs to announce where Zero Hour, Red Widow,Mistresses, and Body of Proof will be on the schedule.
well we atleast know that two of them will go on a sunday night and a thursday night since 666 and last resort got the can
I expected full seasons based on the strong-to-decent performances thus far, but shortened, 18-episode seasons do not seem to bode well for either series past 2012-2013…
Only 18 because they both didnt start airing until November.
Congrats to the staff, crew and cast of LMS. Tim Doyle deserves a lot of credit for making the show funnier and more substantive in the second season. Love the changes and the new cast members. Looking forward to seeing what they come up with next.
Hilarious. What shill wrote this? Nobody on the planet thinks this show got better this year.
Tim Doyle did what? The show sucks big time! Allen and Doyle did that, they ruined a good show with this crap! New cast members are the worst possible. Can’t read a comment without the dislike and hate for them.
LMS has been very funny lately. Loved the most recent show in which the boss at the outdoorsmen’s store accidentally offs an American eagle. ABC, you did good!
I really hope these shows get cancelled, and Hector Elizondo, Nancy Travis and Lily Tomlin get new gigs quickly. Tim Allen is a total jerk and not very funny.
Perhaps ABC is also adding only 5 because they need an extra prime-time hour on Fridays for the new prime-time edition of Nightline which starts in March 2013.
No, they got a full season. They just got 18 instead of 22 because the shows started late.
Both shows were absolutely hilarious last week so I hope an upward trend starts for the shows. Total viewers, about 7 million, is still looking good. But, I hope they get rewarded for being consistently at Modern Family level funny, if they can keep it up. speaking of Modern Family, my God they really cut-up (clowned) tonight. They had me in tears from laughing so hard. They have so many great charcters that they could spin off into a separate hit series. But, getting back to LMS and MC, great job and congrats on the new episode orders!
And what is your job in the ABC publicity department?
Congratulations and thank you to ABC. My family likes Last Man, but we love Malibu Country. Friday is family night in my home. It’s dinner, games, and great TV. love it!
From some of the comments here it sounds like Tim Allen’s manly humor from the 90s isn’t a hit in this new, easily-offended, hyper-PC, super-sensitive, LGBT/femme-friendly era.
LMS has been much funnier this year. THe episode with the BL..Black-frican Americans was hilarious.
I wasn’t a big fan of Last Man Standing based on the episodes I saw last season, but aside from the election-themed first episode this season has been much better. I don’t like the oldest daughter (the 3 kid rule that a lot of family sitcoms seem to follow needs to go, as does the idea that one should be pretty but dumb, another not-so-pretty but smart and sharp-tongued, etc), but overall the show has improved.
Unless ABC is blown away by potential replacements, both shows will probably be renewed.
Stop pretending o be average, down-home Americans! This is an industry site. These comments all have agendas. Yes, many people work very hard on these shows. But no one thinks they’re good. They’re reasonably well-produced product, and will be completely forgotten in five years.
Really? Isn’t there enough politics going around that we have to watch it in a comedy show? Every episode in this new season of LMS has hit some form of “right and left”. What happened to having a good laugh without trying to prove a point? To make matters worse, the idiot just got dumber. This is not my idea of unwinding and enjoying a show.
I really like Malibu Country and I Dvd all the episodes. I save them and enjoy watching them. Very good cast!
Last Man Standing is great. My favorite show on tv.
My husband & i DVR & watch all the episode’s of both Last Man Standing & Malibu Country. America needs a little light hearted comedy in the middle of all the blood & gore thats on our tv’s these days. I love that its clean family entertainment. Not that a little drama once in a while isn’t ok. We all need to just take time to laugh a little more.
Malibu Country is sooo good!! Reba is awesome as always and Lily Tomlin and Sara Rue and the entire cast make me lol….great show!!!! #HILARIOUS!!
I love Reba she is so funny please bring back Malibu country
