Michael Haneke’s Amour took the Palme d’Or this year at Cannes and went on to screen at Toronto, New York and Telluride. Jean-Louis Trintignant and Emmanuelle Riva play an elderly couple still very much in love who confront their declining health — particularly the wife’s. The European Film Awards nominee and potential Oscar contender opens December 19th via Sony Pictures Classics:

A movie for adults. Hooray!
And no men in tights.
I saw this at a LACMA screening (hosted by a truly idiotic Elvis Mitchell) over a month ago and still think about the film almost every day. It is truly shattering, even more so in the days after you see it. I will never think about aging, or marriage, in the same way again.
Brilliant film. I caught it in London a couple of weeks ago and most of the cinema stayed in their seats long after the film was over, totally stunned by it.
Perhaps it’s a great movie. I wouldn’t, however, even consider seeing it based on that awful trailer.
Isabelle Huppert is also divine!
