With original cast member Kim Delaney set to depart Lifetime’s Army Wives as it heads into its seventh season and Sally Pressman scaling back from a series regular to recurring, the veteran drama is adding three actresses as series regulars – Ashanti, Torrey DeVitto (Pretty Little Liars, The Vampire Diaries) and Elle McLemore.
In her first series regular role, singer-actress Ashanti will play Latasha Durant, an optimistic mother of three, a sexy, fun woman who knows how to keep a husband – and how to keep him in line. DeVitto will play Maggie Hall, a sexy and smart Ex-Army Airborne, now a truck driver married to a Staff Sergeant with a teen daughter decided to get out of the Army to devote herself to being a wife and mother. McLemone will play Holly Gordon, a sweet, wide-eyed, bespectacled farm girl newly married to a soldier who is lonely and homesick. Filming on Season 7 will begin in mid-December in Charleston, South Carolina. APA-repped Torrey stars in Lifetime’s upcoming holiday movie The Real St. Nick.

A sassy black woman and a sweet farm girl? Seriously?? And Ashanti no less? As a longtime AW viewer, I’m really disappointed. I did like DeVitto on One Tree Hill, and the remaining original cast members are still appealing, but I think I’ll be moving on from this show. And that’s not just lip service.
My mistake. I mixed up DeVitto and Jana Kramer on One Tree Hill. So yeah, I’m done.
Yes I think I’m done also. They had the perfect cast for this series.Especially no McNamara and Serpico no Elle. Goodbye Army Wives.
Good for Ashanti!
I’m very pleased that ashanti is on this show…her fanbase will grow n she will not disappointmen
Sounds Good! Im liking the change plus Ashanti is HOT!!!
I’m sure Ashanti is very sweet and all, but I feel sorry for all the real black actresses out there who lost out on a role because her people convinced the Lifetime suits that she is relevant enough to attract interest from anyone.
I’m so proud of Ashanti!!! I know she will do an excellent job! Lifetime just gained 1 viewer for Army Wives.
I have thoroughly enjoyed Army Wives over the years and have stuck with it even in the last two years with the very drastic changes of Pressman, Brannagh and now Delaney moving on, I’m about done too. Although, I was pleasantly surprised by last season and the work of Alyssa Diaz and Joseph Soria (likeable and unlikeable in their roles).
However, the addition of Ashanti just makes me through up my hands. Ashanti is just barely a pop singer — and not a relevant one at that — and definitely NOT an actress. Why producers think casting her as opposed to a REAL actress in Hollywood who happens to be black is beyond comprehension. … I’m going out on a limb that this will be the last season of Army Wives.
I guess this means Torrey won’t be on The Vampire Diaries much this season. I was really loving her character and hoped they do more with it.
I see alot of Ashanti hate! So i did my research, she has been in plenty of #1 movies like… Resident Evil, John Tucker Must die, Coach Carter, And many more… Done broadway, appeared in tv shows etc… So dont ask why she gets the role when she has accomplished so much! Lets not forget she sold over 27 million records as well. Ashanti do your thing mama, ArmyWives has gained 2 viewers in my home!
It’s a shame you didn’t watch the show before…it took a black singer to join the show before you had any interest…seems a little biased to me….shame on you.
So people have favorites, big fat deal. Some people only watch shows if their favorite actors/actresses are on it. I didn’t watch it before because I didn’t know any of the actors or actresses and the only reason I’m watching it now is because of Jesse McCartney, who I’ve been a fan of for awhile.
Sounds typical when a show starts to lose it’s key players. My bet, (and I love this show) is that the show has one more year left. It’s one thing when 1 major player leaves, but in this case it’s really 2. Normal evolution however. I hope that Delaney and Pressman already had other things lined up before they decided to pull out. They might not have – after all, they both did 6 years, and that threw off some good $$ for them. Should Catherine Bell leave, that would be it for me. She’s terrific on all fronts.
It’s just a show. For God’s sake I think Ashanti will not dissappoint! I am one viewer that will be watching, I love lifetime.
We are so quick to judge a person. I thought only one person can judge but I see its many.
I am over all the changes the past year and upcoming year. I loved this show but with so many of the original cast leaving or gone and other faces coming in to try to fill those shoes…it won’t happen. I’ve watched every episode many times however will not be joining the Season 7…I agree this will probably be Army Wives last season. The show as it was made it a big hit. Making so many changes all in the same season was a big mistake. Love all the original cast members. Good Luck to you all.
If I like a show I stick with it. I love Army wives despite Kim leaving. I still have Joan, D, Charley, Frank, Michael, Gloria & my Papi Hector! This Army Wife Will Not Give Up!
The show is unrealistic. I have never experienced high ranking officer wives, (Generals and Colonels etc.) fraternize with low ranking enlisted wives.
It’s a dramatic piece sir….not a military base…it’s done for poetic license. Tell me you already knew this and just spoke for the sake of speaking!
My wife and I have LOVED this show from day one…I wanted to watch it for the four hot women in the show but got hooked on the storylines and characters….plus we had two sons serving in The Navy with one in Iraq and the other in Japan so we had a connection to the show’s premise. Now, season 7 appears to have lost “Claudia Joy”, Kim Delany’s character, and “Roxie and Trevor”…we’ve already lost “Pamela”…that’s four of the original cast…that’s hard to replace guys…may be the beginning of the end…only time will tell…good luck to all the new cast members and to the writers.
I have been a fan since the pilot episode but last year just about turned me away. It seemed the writers only had the Sherwood characters to write. It has become unrealistic. As for the new actresses, I have not heard of any of them, therefore I don’t have any expectations. All I know is that the writing has to get better (and maybe it will with fresh characters) our else I’m gone.
I am excited that Army Wives is coming back for another season. I am willing to give the show and the new actors a chance before I judge.
I am excited about the changes. It’ reflective of reality. Real military wives do not stay at one base forever. They have to move, adjust, meet new people etc. I am not tuning out yet. While I may miss the original characters, I will give the new ones a chance.
Disappointing cast when compared to Kim Delaney, Sally Pressman and
Brigid Brannagh (Pamela Moran). And what about Catherine Bell? This year I think I’ll watch The Good Wife on CBS instead. It’s also a great show and they’re smart enough to leave the cast alone.
Hmmm Ashanti being apart of the show shows versatility .. she’s am actress with a huge Repitore of acting gigs, from movies, to guess appearances she’s accomplished all in the music industry and she’s BACK I just don’t understand why the hate is here ..Ashanti LIKE other actresses auditioned for many rolls and didnt get it its apart of the Bizz.. Now shawty achieving and her hard workbis paying off..and people wanna bring her down..oh well SHES on the show you don’t gotta watch it but TEAM ASHANTI will take over lifetime
I have been watching this show from the beginning. At first i didn’t care for it much being an Army wife myself some of it was to unrealistic but the show grew on me and I embraced the fact it is a drama/soap. a lot of you are hating the fact that actresses you don’t know or Ashanti is joining the cast but i didn’t know half the actresses or actors in this show when i first started watching it either! The thing I like about the cast change is Army wives are not gonna stay at the same installation forever they had to make the change! That is what being married to the Army is all about you could move anytime and friends come and go a lot!!!!!
I think that if we like the show that we should all give them a chance, its military life, you come to post you make friends and then your tour at that post is up and you move on and you make more friends but you never forget the ones you made before the military no matter where you go, your always family
I am 20 years old but I have been watching army wives since the first season when I was in high school…. I got used to the slight change I think It started on season 4 or 5 and last season esp with Gloria (loved what her character brought to the show another roxy in a sense) but this season cast set has me worried! I feel like it is random and idk how it will be the same… Was it that hard to keep people for just one more season?! If that was the case last season should have been the final one rather than now… Ashanti really?! Of all people?! I understand the adding diversity and appreciate that but I don’t think I can sit and listen to her talk could hardly listen to her sing! I sware she says baby one time I’m done…
As a loyal watcher and former army wife, I started watching the show when my husband enlisted the show started a week later. I have NEVER missed an episode and neither has 7 other family members/friends of mine. But now we all say we’re DONE. This is rediculous. I was about done when they were getting rid of Roxy, I has hoped they wouldn’t. And now Claudia Joy!?!?!? Thats IT! They say that they did it to “keep the show fresh and interesting”! Well they just ruined it. So SAD…….
Never could really get into Army Wives. I watched the new episode and it looks like it could be interesting. Think i’ll start watching!
