EXCLUSIVE: ABC is feeling the force. No, the network is not already working on a Star Wars series following last week’s Disney acquisition of Lucasfilm. In a competitive situation, ABC has snagged Feel The Force, an ensemble cop comedy written and executive produced by Bill Lawrence, with a put pilot commitment plus penalty. The single-camera project is based on the 2006 BBC2 comedy starring Michelle Gomez (watch the trailer below), created by Georgia Pritchett and produced by Catherine Bailey Limited. It centers on two rookie female cops who struggle to prove themselves in a male-dominated police force.
Warner Bros TV and Lawrence’s studio-based Doozer are producing, with Doozer’s Lawrence and Jeff Ingold executive producing. This marks Lawrence’s return to ABC where all of his previous series have run. That includes his first show, Spin City, which he co-created; Scrubs, which ended its run on ABC; and his latest comedy, Cougar Town, which aired on ABC for three seasons before moving to TBS. (Lawrence is consulting on Cougar Town, which he co-created.)
This marks ICM Partners-repped Doozer’s fourth sale this development season, joining I Suck At Girls, which has a pilot production commitment at Fox, Ali In Wonderland, which is a put pilot at NBC, and another half-hour at NBC, Undateable, which has penalty attached. Lawrence serves as an executive producer on the three comedies, which all are based on books.

Congrats Bill! What an awesome year for Doozer.
Love Bill’s work be he will be hard pressed to find anyone as funny as Michelle Gomez. She was the rock of the UK version of the show, and “Green Wing” was made much better by her presence. I’ll be curious to see how this plays out.
“Jeff Inglod.” Excellent. Now THAT’S comedy.
Stop the spin offs, reboots and remakes of foreign series. Is Hollywood devoid of all original thought? Those who run it, yes. Those who write, no. C’mon! Get original.
Why? None of his other shows have been truly hits. Plus, they’re not funny. I’m convinced that he made a deal with the devil.
Miffy, your relentless hatred continues to drive me. Thank you, as always!
Where’s the “like” button for these comments?
Bill you have lucked into a deal here that is completely wasteful and unnecessary. The British version is hilarious and perfect and if ABC was smart instead of stupid they’d just air the British version to huge ratings. Everything about it is smarter and funnier than anything you could possibly do to Americanize it. You will only ruin it. The charm of it is evident in the video above. ABC will be wasting their money on this so enjoy the extra income while it lasts because your American version won’t last very long at all.
Miffy, why so much hating on Bill? I know that he has made someone laugh is his career, I’ve seen it with my own eyes. Do you have a hard time making people laugh? Is this the problem? So far, I’m not feeling your charm and rapier wit, but perhaps I’m wrong and you are hilarious. I’m curious how you became the arbiter of comedy. Did you go to school for that?
Lastly, we are all doing the best we can. I think if you met Bill ( and he would make you laugh) you might feel bad because he is such a great guy. One of the all time good guys. Just thought you should know.
Absolutely hilarious. Watch the US version destroy the comedy.
I haven’t seen this show (couldn’t find it anywhere!), but from what I hear it wasn’t very good. I heard lots of people call it a ripoff of Reno 911!, which I’m not a huge fan of either (great cast, but I never found it that funny). Then again, I love workplace comedies, and Bill Lawrence is a genius, so I will keep an eye on this.
