EXCLUSIVE: CBS Films has acquired U.S. distribution rights to The Last Exorcism Part II, in a deal that has just been closed with Studiocanal. The film will be released March 1, 2013.
Ashley Bell reprises her lead role in the thriller, which Ed Gass-Donnelly directed from a script he wrote with Damien Chazelle. The 2010 original was released by Lionsgate and grossed a devilish $68 million worldwide on a $1.8 million budget to become one of the most lucrative genre films in a long time. Eli Roth produced the film along with Marc Abraham, Thomas A. Bliss and Eric Newman of Strike Entertainment. Patty Long and Gabrielle Neimand served as executive producers.
Continuing where the first film left off, Nell Sweetzer (Bell) is found alone and terrified in the woods. Back in the relative safety of civilization, Nell realizes that she can’t remember entire portions of the previous months only that she is the last surviving member of her family. Just as Nell begins the difficult process of starting a new life, the evil force that once possessed her is back with other, unimaginably horrific plans that mean her last exorcism was just the beginning.
CBS Films’ Scott Shooman negotiated the deal with Studiocanal’s Harold van Lier. Studiocanal, which financed the film, will release it in the UK, France and Germany. Said van Lier: “Heading into AFM we knew that the creative team behind The Last Exorcism Part II had delivered a bigger, scarier sequel. CBS Films came to the table with a clear vision for the film’s release and we feel that we’ve found the perfect partner to take this franchise to the next level.”

The main title card should read:
“The Last (just kidding) Exorcism”
Lionsgate passed on this after they released the original? Hmmmm…. Something smells fishy. They release EVERYTHING. Even bad films.
if you mean “tried everything in their power to get it,but couldn’t convince the filmmakers to deal with them again” by “Lionsgate passed on it”, then you would be correct…
The first film was the best Exorcism in years and Ashley Bell is a talent, I’d see this movie.
Yeah, I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Far better than The Devil Inside, at any rate.
Wow, I love Ed Gass-Donnelly’s micro-budget Canadian indie films. I had no idea that he’d been hired to do this movie.
Nice one.
I hope Last Exorcism is more watchable than those were. I’m still snoozing from ‘em.
It’s grammatically and logically impossible to have a Last Exorcism II you can only have one “last thing” no matter what it is. They have to go back and re-title the first film so it becomes “The Second to Last Exorcism” then they can re-title this one “The Last Exorcism” if they don’t do this they will be arrested by me.
Grammar cop – You forget that “last” has two meanings: (1) final and (2) previous.
And based on the description and the title being Part II…it sound like it is the continued story of that exorcism.
And besides…wasn’t the first one about the preacher’s last exorcism as opposed to the last exorcism in the world?
How about “The Neverending Exorcism” then they can do as many sequels as they want to it.
This film will serve, mostly, as a vehicle for proud papa Michael Bell to crow loudly. And, he should!!!!
I enjoyed the first one, and recall getting a crush on miss Ashley Bell ( I’ve always fall for possessed girls, don’t know why) Linda Blair should marry me).
Bottom line: the new trend in Hollywood is to make micro-budged films that can make a profit. Hence 1 million dollar to make the first film and $68 million return. It works. So bring it on.
This next film should at least have a bit more nudity. And stir clear of 3D until next film: “The Last, Ultimate and Final Exorsism”
