Chuck Lorre had some harsh words in his latest vanity card about Mitt Romney’s ability to relate to most Americans and “idiotic game shows like The Bachelor.” But he chose to address those topics and more last night online – not on CBS. “I’ve decided to save everybody a lot of unhappiness and not submit this week’s vanity card to the CBS censors (I know when I’ve crossed the line with these things and don’t need a bunch of corporate lawyers getting their cotton blend panties in a bunch). Accordingly, I’ve banished the offending card to that dark place where all my offending cards go — the internet,” wrote The Big Bang Theory executive producer in the card that popped up for a second at the end of last night’s show. Here’s what Lorre wrote online:
CHUCK LORRE PRODUCTIONS, #397
CENSORED BY ME
What does it say about us when we are simultaneously pro-life and pro AK-47′s? What does it say about us when God’s will would allow a rapist to ask for shared custody and child support payments? What does it say about us when a black guy’s in charge and we say things like “it’s time to take America back”? What does it say about us when we think the institution of marriage is threatened by gay people who love each other, but not by idiotic game shows like “The Bachelor”? What does it say about us when we export democracy with Hellfire missiles, then restrict the right to vote here? What does it say about us when we build nuclear submarines to defend against exploding vests? What does it say about us when we think a guy who doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke, keeps his money offshore, stubs his toe and says “H-E-double hockey sticks” and wears magical underwear can feel our pain? What does it say about us when we demand less government and more FEMA? What does it say about us when we completely forgot the colossal shit storm we were in four years ago?
The answer, my friends, is not blowing in the wind.
The answer is, “We are fucking crazy.
This isn’t the first time Lorre, who recently published a book of his idiosyncratic vanity cards, has self-censored them. Nor is it the first time he’s done it over political issues. In February, the producer pushed TV viewers online to read a card that went after the GOP’s stance on gay marriage and the death penalty.

Love him or hate him, Chuck is beautifully outspoken. Thanks for voicing so eloquently what so many of us are thinking.
Speak for yourself. Why does Hollywood, a town that has NEVER ever shown regard for marriage, especially celebrities, suddenly now care about this religious institution? Oh, that’s right, they can feel self-righteous. Whatever happened to civil unions? They give the same rights without having to redefine a ritual set forth by God.
It’s simple: civil unions are not marriage and do not afford same-sex couples all the rights of opposite-sex couples. This is one of those cases where you actually can’t have your cake and eat it, too. You can’t say you support equality and not actually, you know, support equality.
Well, then, uh, you know, fix the civil unions so they do get all the rights.
Don’t change the religious institution.
It’s not equal because marriage was never meant for anyone but man and woman.
Just like the Boy Scouts won’t let girls in because, uh, you know, it’s called the boy scouts.
Uh, you know, duh…
There’sann easy way to fix it: stop letting religion dictate people’s freedoms… ya know, like what our forefathers wanted when they started this allegedly-great country of ours. As long as marriage is something that requires a government-issued document that affords rights to some but not to others, it is always going to discriminate against those who aren’t granted said document, plain and simple. I don’t believe in God, but even if I entered into a male/female union I’d still need to get married to be afforded the rights others have… Something I can legally do without religion in te picture.
The fundamental misdirection/lie of the opposing churches. Legalized gay marriage doesn’t change the religious institutions one bit. It changes the secular, civil definition. That’s it. Don’t want to marry same-sex couples in your church? No problem. Just don’t assume that your religious interpretation is the same as all others. It’s not. This is about civil, state-recognized marriage and has naught to do with your particular religious perspective.
Your definition of marriage also doesn’t jibe w/ what’s in the bible, but that’s for a completely separate argument.
Amen 2 that & Thank U 4 being able 2 say so; So Eloquently.
Because we know how well ‘separate but equal’ worked…
False dilemma – gay marriage does not equate to the cviil rights moment. Skin color and sexual preference are two vastly different things. So yeah, separate but equal didn’t work so well as you glibly point out, but no one says you have to get married. It’s not a “right” like riding on a bus or drinking from a water fountain. Keep touting the liberal arguments, as ill-thought out as they are. It makes for cheap sanctimony.
You are so wrong it’s mind-blowing. Talk about ill-thought arguments. Everyone should have the equal right to marriage. Just as interracial marriage was once deemed illegal and finally ruled unconstitutional, the same will happen with gay marriage. It’s only a matter of time. Your backwards thinking is what’s wrong with this country. Stop hating.
Civil unions DO NOT provide the same rights as marriage. Furthermore, marriage was not a ritual set forth by “God” but rather one created by man. Who incidentally is the one responsible for writing and re-writing the Bible over all these years. Aramaic does not equal Greek which does not equal Latin which does not equal Old English which does not equal Modern English. Man has inserted his own self and ego into the translations.
It’s not a separate or equal thing at all. Marriage has always been about a man and a woman. That’s the definition. To equate this to color of skin and civil rights is ridiculous but a way for liberals to get all self-righteous about it. Fix the civil unions SO THEY DO give equal rights instead of being Anti-religion, anti-Christian, intolerant bigots. God inspired those men to write the Bible. It’s the bestseller of all time for a reason. Cite me the passages where man “inserted his own ego” (a pretty silly claim). You don’t sound like someone who’s actually read the Bible but rather someone who has decided to blab about it without any knowledge, taking the secular world’s hackneyed arguments. Try reading it first and then maybe you’ll understand.
It won’t work. Don’t bother.
To religions, the Bible is the word of God and God needs to bless a marriage for it to be recognized as a marriage. If homosexuality is a sin then God can’t bless the marriage. This argument has nothing to do with logic, equality, or freedom despite being logical in its own right. Who knew?
Also, I bet that most religious Americans don’t actually know that the US was founded with the intention of separating church and state. I guess the leader thinks “Freedom of Religion” means the President’s Religion is the best! Just like how the Pope is the mouth of God. Like both the Mouth of Sauron and Sauron Himself.
But just as any church should be forbidden to participate in dry, procedural, and necessary state/federal legislature, so should the state keep out of messy, dark age, and necessary religions.
It’s a good thing no one is going to force religious figures to perform marriages for every person who asks (and by any person, I mean only LGBTs). In religious fairness, they probably shouldn’t be trying to force political figures to withhold marriages from anyone (and by anyone I mean LGBTs) who asks.
Meh, eventually, it will all work out and any human will be allowed to marry any other human. I hope I’m still alive to witness it. (I’m 28).
What does it say about us when Chuck Lorre’s immensely shitty shows are the most popular on television? Take the tin foil hat off, Chuck and stop propping up straw men in an attempt to keep an awful President in office just because he plays for the blue team.
I guess a show about science would piss off a GOP supporter.
ziiiing!
Uh, I believe that’s “Bazinga!”
It says that the American public, much like Hollywood, love to be all self-righteous about core human values like equality and love for all; yet at the end of the day, majority of us enjoy crass, crude, racist, and misogynist Lorre humor for cheap laughs. And I’m not only talking about that disgusting 2.5 Men. Even The Big Bang Theory has taken a dive from its once-intelligent humor to the past 2 season’s milquetoast one-liners to appeal to more viewers, and guess what? Voila! It’s working. It’s the age old Law of Supply and Demand. Hence, you can’t blame the writers totally (I actually feel sad for them, having to use their brilliance for sick Amy Farrah Fowler-desperately-shows-Sheldon-her-hooha-to-seduce-him jokes), but blame the public instead, for actually WATCHING Lorre’s trash.
Chuck Lorre is a billionaire. He is unrelatable to the average man as well.
Then why do people like you keep watching his shows??
Bravo Mr. Lorre!!!
He isn’t far off base. I wish I had a pair of these alleged magic under garments.
While I am not a particular fan of Lorre, I do find some of his vanity cards amusing, some crass, and some downright ludicrous. However, with a little more restraint and self-editing, this card could have probably been aired with no intervention from the censors. The cultural and defense points he made were right on. While he may be right regarding Mitt-bot, the personal comments were likely unnecessary.
Lorre is snarky enough to get his point across without personally attacking any candidate, D or R.
Never, ever pay any attention to Hollywood leftists. They are mega-rich, vapid, faith-less, feel guilty about everything and usually make little sense. Rely on your own character and intelligence.
If Hollywood leftists are all mega-rich, clearly the road to success is to get a job in craft services on a movie shoot and vote for a Democrat. The money will just roll in!
Somehow I don’t think it works that way, though.
You are entitled to your own opinion on Hollywood lefties, but you say “faith-less” like there is something wrong with people who don’t believe in your ‘faith.’ What makes you right?
I always rely on my own character and intelligence, and I find myself agreeing with a vast majority of what he wrote.
To savvydude and ALL the rightwingers who come on these boards who hate when Hollywood people express their opinions: YOU’RE ON A SHOW BUSINESS WEBSITE! If you don’t like hearing what Hollywood people have to say, go to a fishing website.
Uh, Chucky- the issue isn’t about a “show business website”. It is about a producer of a TV show, on the airwaves everywhere. Hate to burst your silly bubble.
Now, go away and play with your toys.
And yet… this didn’t go out “on the airwaves everywhere.” Why are Republicans so determined to ignore the facts as long as it suits their agenda?
TF, please pay attention: the vanity card Mr. Lorre wrote was at the end of a sitcom on a broadcast network – CBS. You can get CBS with rabbit ears. Geez, put the bong down and learn something.
Why are liberals so ignorant, huh?
@ savvydude, you try so hard. If you managed to read the beginning of the article, this vanity card was posted online, not at the end of the show. Let’s learn some facts, which I know you conservatives have a hard time doing, before we try to prove people wrong.
Instead, pay attention to the Koch brothers.
While I agree with everything Chuckie says here, I find it hilarious that he criticizes idiotic game shows like “The Bachelor”, when he produces one of the most idiotic shows on TV, “Two and a Half Men”. Ha ha Chuckie, that’s certainly a good laugh.
You missed the point.
first time I have ever agreed with Chuck Lorre. Good for him.
Wow. I am a huge Chuck Lorre fan as of right now I will begin watching all of his shows. Couldn’t have said this better myself!
Not the biggest fan in the world of Chuck Lorre’s television shows (though I have to admit he’s awesome at making big bucks and getting ratings) but I LOVE what he has to say here about the election and Mitt-nesia Romney. And I have to add that Lorre, rich as he is, has a big, brass pair to say so in a manner so public, so pointed, so SPOT ON. Now, we can all whip out the pop corn and watch with amusement as the ‘Drudge lemmings’ pounce, threatening to boycott his shows and CBS and cue-card companies and…
BAZINGA!
Chuck and Mitt actually have a lot on common. Both made their fortunes by taking from those who are far less fortunate. Just sayin’.
Er, how does Chuck take money from those less fortunate? Seems to me his highly successful TV shows actually produce a lot of jobs that keep people in work. Unlike Mitt, who – with the one exception of Staples (which he still managed to lie about in court) – has built his fortune on DESTROYING jobs and businesses.
You, David O., are utilizing false equivalency in your comment above. Sorry.
David O, let me explain this to you, since you seem not to be able to grasp it. There is a HUGE difference: Lorre agrees to pay his taxex to support social infrastructures.
Mitt is a selfish human being that doesn’t remember that his Jesus was a socialist.
So you must know Romney personally to make pronounce such a judgement. You don’t think Lorre and every other person are trying to minimize the taxes they pay? Romney paid his taxes according to the law. Don’t like it, vote in politicians who will change the tax code. Why should he pay more than he’s required just because he’s wealthy?
I think Lorre was justified in voicing his opinions. It’s his right. But the personal attacks on Romney seemed a bit overboard. I don’t care if he attacks Romney’s ideas on politics, but why make it personal. To me it shows bitterness and hate, rather than snarkiness. I feel the same way about the right-wing that personally attacks Obama. Attack the politics, not the person. This is why politics are so ugly. Personal attacks like Lorre’s or any from Hannity, Limbaugh, Beck, or Olberman do nothing but fuel the fire.
What does it say about us when the liberal creator of mind-numbing sitcoms sponsored by conservative Fortune 500 companies calls the people he inflicted them on “f–king crazy”?
Well, Chuck Lorre doesn’t really get to take the high ground when it comes to idiotic and trashy shows…
The quality, or otherwise, of Chucks’s shows is completely irrelevant to the arguments he is making here. But by all means, do go ahead and attempt to divert attention from the real issues. That is a Republican specialty, after all.
Who would have guessed Sheen was right about this loser.
LOL This comment is so desperate.
he definitely have the right to say what he wants to say and how he wants to vote. but I do have one question about what he wrote.
“What does it say about us when we think a guy who doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke, keeps his money offshore, stubs his toe and says “H-E-double hockey sticks” and wears magical underwear can feel our pain?”
what kind of PAIN does Lorre feel when he is probably just as rich or too far off as Mitt?
I don’t think Lorre feels my scratchy ball pain because I think he wears a similar magical underwear as well.
What does it say about us , when we think anyone gives a shit what you think? The problem in this country is that people let idiots like this sway their thinking about issues, instead of having a thought of their own.. What a tremendous ego this creep must have.
losing
What does it say about us that Ashton Kutcher is a celebrity?
Ditto @bobbythesaint!! Couldn’t have said it better myself.
I’ll drink to that!
Funny how many people who take shots at Romney’s “magic underpants” grew up wearing “magic beanies.” A little tolerance, people, because everyone can throw stones.
Wow. Amazing. So true!! Every religion has a little something kooky. Truth be told, there are about 13 million Jews in the world and about the same amount as Mormons. They have more in common than not.
While I agree with most of Mr. Lorre’s sentiments, I’d take them more seriously if he wasn’t responsible for some of the most sexist and stereotype-laden shows on TV.
Have to say, these vanity cards are the best thing about Lorre’s shows…the show may be lame, but the card mades a solid point.
Thank you Mr. Lorre for putting a realistic perspective out there. So many people are buying into the fear of losing their freedom when in fact they have given it up by becoming sheep and believing they’ll stop being who they are by the color of our leader’s skin or by same sex people loving each other.
