The Lincoln star was among the honorees at last night’s BAFTA LA gala the Britannia Awards at the Beverly Hilton. The Brit couldn’t help but try another portrayal of a real-life figure with a help of a certain furniture prop made famous during the Republican National Convention. “This is nothing against Clint Eastwood …” Day-Lewis said during his acceptance speech. “But when I saw him talking to a chair in front of a roomful of strangers, I thought, ‘I’ve got to try that’”. The full awards ceremony airs Sunday night on BBC America. Check out the video:

Daniel was terrific as was the entire Britannia Awards. As always, BAFTA/LA put on a wonderful event.
Love it! DDL is the best!
Lovely. Did you notice there was no music to interrupt the speech? No hurrying off stage as if the “show” was the thing and not the artists being honored. This is the way it should be, and not the bloated, boring awards programs produced by both American academys.
The show wasn’t live so why would they have exit music?
Great actor. Comedy skit part: fail.
OH SO CLEVER!!
Fish in the barrel replicating Eastwood, particularly after the election is over. Great courage— so Funny!!! What a guy.
Sweet.
What I wouldn’t give for a hug from Steven.
The only thing I could care less about than the political opinions of the American Hollywood crowd is those of their FOREIGN brethren! I’d give my left foot (pun intended) if these rich, out-of-touch bastards would just stick to what they know and leave the real-world stuff to grown-ups.
If you don’t care about the political opinions of foreign people, then why did you watch the video?
Not that I disagree with you. I think Hollywood people should butt out of politics, as well as unions, who are all corrupt, the top 1%, who are all completely out of touch, people in the “fly-over-states”, who just watch football and go to church, east coasters, who think they’re better than everyone else and those on the “left” coast who spend all their time smoking up and going to Starbucks. They should just leave it to those in Washington, who know what they’re doing. Right?
I guess I’m the only one sick of that bit, I guess no one is doing Sarah Palin jokes anymore.
I love this!
Slightly disappointed, since I thought Day-Lewis was actually going to impersonate Eastwood.
If a grim and serious, albeit talented actor/director and sometimes mayor wants to be political on the national scene and try to do so comedically and insult a standing president then he is soooo ripe to be made fun of by pros and amateurs for many many years to come.
DDL held up his end of the conversation with the empty chaie, whereas Mr. Eastwood seemed tonguetied and intimidated by a prsence larger than his own. This kind of well intended commentary should help Clint learn.
So great to see that a person who is known for being overly serious, can be funny is cool. It shows that DDL can do it all.
Yes, so classy of an English actor mocking an American icon like Clint Eastwood (not). And bad publicity for BAFTA/LA and their annual awards. Have seen many posts by people who are now not going to see “Lincoln” either, because of this. Who is Daniel’s publicist, anyway?
