The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder says MLS Cup 2012 on December 1 will be his final competitive game with the club. Beckham has spent the past six seasons with the Galaxy, helping lead the club to three MLS Cup berths, including the third championship in club history last year when they beat the Houston Dynamo 1-0 in MLS Cup 2011. “I’ve had an incredibly special time playing for the LA Galaxy, however, I wanted to experience one last challenge before the end of my playing career,” Beckham said in a statement on the Galaxy’s website. “I don’t see this as the end of my relationship with the league as my ambition is to be part of the ownership structure in the future”. The Galaxy reached a 10-year broadcast deal with Time Warner Cable Sports in November 2011 that is the most lucrative in MLS history. In his six seasons with the Galaxy, Beckham appeared in 98 regular season games, tallying 18 goals and adding 40 assists, good for the fourth most in club history. “Seldom does an athlete redefine a sport and David not only took our franchise to another level but he took our sport to another level,” said Tim Leiweke, President and CEO of AEG. Beckham is managed by Simon Fuller’s XIX Entertainment. MLS Cup 2012 will be broadcast nationally on ESPN and TeleFutura.

I think he finally convinced Posh to let him go back to Europe for another run at the English national team for World Cup 2014. I’m sure PSG & AC Milan would still be interested. Regardless, Beckham had an incredibly successful run in MLS.
Becks was GREAT for U.S. soccer and helped the Galaxy overall. No one can cross the ball in MLS like him. He can go to whichever league he wants, but China would pay the most and his brand would be worth tens of millions of dollars there. Best of luck lad…
Beckham is a legend in these parts and he’ll be knighted when he retires as a result of his contribution to sport as a whole (football and successful Olympic bid) BUT he’s never going to play for England again. He is too old for international football when there are 6 or 7 20 year olds better than him. Good luck to him though.
He’s eyeing up a move to the A-League (Australia). Everyone is assuming that he will go to either Melbourne or Sydney because those are the only Posh-friendly cities on the continent.
Two clubs in each city, but Melbourne Victory coach Ange P has already ruled him out: “Would we be interested? Nah.”
Personally I rate Beckham and I wouldn’t be surprised if he signs with Victory’s arch rivals Melbourne Heart.
David Beckham made me a fan of soccer when I wouldnt have otherwise cared about the sport. Thanks for all you’ve done for the game in America, David. You are going to live on in Los Angeles Sports history forever for your accomplishments on the field. Good luck to him and his family in the future.
