It’s fitting that THNKR stands out on our ranking of Google-funded YouTube channels in the week heading into Thanksgiving with an inspiring video about a 15-year-old engineering prodigy from Sierra Leone given a chance to visit MIT. The tale of Kelvin Doe, who built and powered a radio station with materials he found in trash cans, generated more than 2M views in the week ending November 21, propelling THNKR 62 places to No. 14 — by far the channel’s best performance since we began monitoring YouTube channels in May. Still, when it comes to mass viewing, Redbull takes the prize again helped by “The Athlete Machine,” a video of an elaborate Rube Goldberg contraption powered by several extreme sports stars. The channel gained 10.3M views for a total of 17.8M. The channels we track collectively generated 129.1M views, up 34.3% vs last week — with two caveats that I’ll note in a moment — and the top 10 accounted for 54.8%. Joining that group this week were Motor Trend (+7 to No. 5), Vice (+8 to No. 6) and Fuse (+11 to No. 9). Those sliding off were Machinima Prime (-9 to No. 12), Young Hollywood (-6 to No. 13), and Awesomeness TV (-6 to No. 15).

The caveats this week are that our numbers for Mondo Media just run through November 20, and we have a new channel on the list: BermanBraun’s Cinefix, which targets movie buffs and film makers.

Now, for the weekly highs and lows. The channels making the biggest gains by views: Redbull, The Warner Sound (+6M to 13.1M), WWE Fan Nation (+3.4M to 6.4), Vice (+2.9M to 4.9M), and Motor Trend (+2.7M to 5.2M). Biggest improvement by rank: THNKR, Take Part (+34 to No. 48), Nerdist (+28 to No. 25), Popspot (+24 to No. 60), and The Moms View (+21 to 46). Biggest declines by views: Machinima Prime (-3.2M to 3.1M), WSJ Digital Network (-1.1M to 930,189), Deadline.com parent PMC’s ENTV (-1.1M to 4.7M), Young Hollywood (-917,396 to 3.0M), and Slatester (-699,704 to 514,432). And dropping most by rank: Modern Mom (-25 to No. 63), Team USA (-24 to No. 73), Tasted (-21 to No. 72) Cafe Mom Studios (-21 to No. 76), and Slatester (-19 to No. 43).

Blayze supplies the data for our tally with one exception: YouTube provides views for the shows it funds on Mondo Media. Channels highlighted in beige are the ones that were launched before Google introduced its original channels program in November. Here’s our latest ranking:
