Duane Martin (All Of Us) and Moesha alumna Sheryl Lee Ralph are set to co-star opposite Tia Mowry in the Nick at Nite family comedy pilot Instant Mom. Youngsters Sydney Park, Tylen Williams and Damarr Calhoun round out the cast of the project, from Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment. Written by Warren Bell and Jessica Butler loosely based on their real life, Instant Mom centers on a 25-year-old party girl (Mowry) who trades in cosmos for carpools when she marries Charlie (Martin), an older man with kids, Gabrielle (Park), James (Williams) and Aaron (Damarr). Ralph plays Tia’s mother Maggie. Bell, Butler and Kaplan executive produce.
Natalie Morales (Parks & Recreation) has joined the cast of ABC’s single-camera comedy pilot Trophy Wife. It centers on reformed party girl Kate (Malin Akerman), who finds herself with an insta-family when she falls in love with Brad (Bradley Whitford), a successful charmer with a quirky sense of humor who has three manipulative kids and two judgmental ex-wives (Marcia Gay Harden, Michaela Watkins). Morales, repped by UTA and attorney Mitch Smelkinson, will play Meg, Kate’s best friend. She recently did an arc on HBO’s Newsroom.

same show, different networks? fire everybody!
Wow, these shows both sound really original! I was JUST saying the other day that there aren’t enough shows about reformed party girls who marry into “insta-families,” and now we get TWO! PINCH ME I MUST BE DREAMING!
Both pilots sound the exact same and both sound equally awful.
Oh Nick at Nite will try to make a retro sitcom & ABC will try to make an ultra-hip, cool, fish out of the water pilot. Yay!
I loved Morales on the Middle Man. I was really hoping to see her pop in something else. I think she’s super talented.
Insta-families are so hot right now!
I am excited about “Instant Mom” I loved Duane Martin on All of Us and Out All Night! Sheryl Lee Ralph is a wonderful actress I loved her on Moesha and Sister Act! I was so sad to hear that Tia Mowry-Hardwrict would not be apart of “The Game” anymore so I am SUPER excited to see her in a new sitcom!! Sounds like its going to be a great show!!
