Dwayne Johnson really will play the classic strongman Hercules onscreen. The Brett Ratner-directed Hercules action film will be co-produced by Paramount and MGM, the companies announced today. Johnson and Ratner’s names have been attached to the project since early spring. The screenplay was adapted by Ryan Condal from Radical Studios’ graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars; Evan Spiliotopoulos did script revisions. Beau Flynn, Barry Levine and Ratner will produce. Peter Berg, Sarah Aubrey and Jesse Berger will executive produce. Production is scheduled to start in early 2013. Condal is repped by WME. Ratner is repped by CAA. Johnson is repped by WME and The Garcia Companies.
Deadline's Dominic Patten - tip him here.

You lost me at Ratty…
A “300″ knockoff starring The Rock? Is this 2007?
Someone tell me this is a bad joke.
is this going to be another CAA/WME fight over commission? didn’t CAA originally get him involved with this?
In a sense, I am sorry to see Dwayne Johnson returning to the obvious. It appeared he was trying to do a wider range of characters and stories.
Fully understand this…but, not particularly thrilled with the idea.
It is what it is…
This is great news! Just because it should eliminate Ratner from any discussion of Star Wars Episode VII!
I never knew that Hercules was Samoan.
The producers were hoping to cast a Greek actor in the role until they realized the only Greco-American marquee name was Zach Galifianakis.
That being said, this was the role Joe Manganiello was born to play (Sicilian-Armenian, close enough)
Are all the haters here a bunch of homoerotic fanboys of the Kevin Sorbo series??! This sounds awesome, and totally appropriate given the pathetic attempt to reinvent the clash of the titans franchise that never needed any reinventing in the first place.
Let me guess a little kid will be his sidekick.
Dwayne Johnson… Brett Ratner… Hercules… this should be called “BROAD AS FUCK”
Dwayne, c’mon! What about Doc Savage?

When is Xena coming to the big screen?
It’s a shame that Dave Elliott, who instigated the comics, assembled the creative teams, packaged and edited the series is in no way mentioned or involved in this deal. Even though he had left the publisher a few years ago, the creators were unwilling to work with anyone else to make this happen, so Radical had to come crawling back. But still, no mention of the guy who made it all happen.
Lets wait and see , when the filem is going to be released.
