EXCLUSIVE: News flash! HBO’s The Newsroom will tackle this year’s Presidential campaign in its upcoming second season. The latest addition to the cast of Aaron Sorkin’s cable news drama is Grace Gummer, who has been tapped for a recurring role playing Hallie Shea, an embedded reporter covering the Mitt Romney campaign. This marks the second major TV role for Meryl Streep’s daughter Gummer who starred on Nickelodeon’s Gigantic. (She also guest starred in an episode of NBC’s Smash last season.) Gummer, whose older sister Mamie is the star of the new CW drama series Emily Owens, MD, is repped by CAA and Anonymous Content.
In other recurring casting news, Stephen Schneider (Best Friends Forever) has landed a three-episode arc on another NBC comedy series, midseason entry Save Me starring Anne Heche as Beth, a woman with a spiritual awakening. He will play Pete Dennings who is high school friends with Beth’s husband (Michael Landes). Schneider is with CAA, Schumacher Management and attorney Lev Ginsburg.

Dear God, not ANOTHER Gummer.
I agree. Nepotism at its worst.
She was horrible on “SMASH” I guess nepotism goes a long way.
So many great talented actors looking for work and her kids just “walk in” and get jobs. It’s a big turn off.
Here’s why so much product from Hollywood is crap. Nepotism in the acting, writing and producing. Give the talented folks a chance.
This girl is not very talented at all. I like her sister much better. Actually, when I first saw the headline I thought Emily Owens had been canceled and that Mamie was recurring on the Newsroom. That would have made me way happier on all levels.
They’re a pack of Gummers!
I havent seen Grace Gummer act but I like her sister, Mamie. Mamie is great at playing the shy, socially awkward characters plus she was amazing on The Good Wife. Grace better knock this role out of the park or else it would be a bad example of nepotism for her.
i can’t comment about the talent, or supposed lack there of expressed by previous commenters, but it must super suck to be the child of talented actors and directors because everyone seems to automatically assume nepotism is in play. there was a lot of lip about Mamet’s daughter on GIRLS, that his name got her the job, blah, blah, blah. she’s actually genius on the show and i just couldn’t believe all the flack she was getting. not denying that it does happen but once in a while they may just have gotten it on their own.
