EXCLUSIVE: Here is a fun scoop for X-Men fans. Bryan Singer, who helmed the first two superb installments that launched the franchise at Fox and whom Deadline was first to reveal will helm X-Men: Days Of Future Past, has just tweeted the following news: “I’d like to officially welcome back James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult to X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Also thrilled to announce Sir Ian Mckellen and Sir Patrick Stewart.”
How is that going to work with the actors playing both Magneto and Professor Xavier, in the same movie with Fassbender and McAvoy, who played those characters as young men in X-Men: First Class? “The movie is called X-Men: Days Of Future Past, use your imagination,” Singer tells me. “More to come,” adds Singer, who happens to be in New Zealand for meetings — just in time to attend the premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. He’s hanging with Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and James Cameron is there, as is the whole Hobbit gang, including McKellen, who’s reprising as Gandalf in the new trilogy. What a lucky guy!

And still no word on the one I am REALLY looking forward to see in the sequel : Rose Byrne.
Her character was pointless. I hope she doesn’t return.
I like Rose, but her character was boring and useless. I hope she doesn’t come back.
She is a great actress, a charismatic one, too, she definitely needs better material if she returns for the sequel, but if they can provide that, I hope she will come back.
No offense but how can reporting on a tweet that anyone can see be an exclusive? Perhaps this was an editorial mix-up because you were first to report about Bryan Singer taking the reins?
Anyway, glad to hear the news.
I believe Mr. Singer’s response to the tweet would be the exclusive portion
You missed the “Singer tells me” part? The author obviously got in touch with him and asked him for a comment?
What’s the exclusive part here? Is it exclusive that Days of Future Past was revealed, exclusive that we can use our imagination to figure out what that means, or exclusive that there will be more to come? I’m pretty sure we knew all those things previously.
Due respect to Mr. Fleming but Days of Future’s past is a published piece of work. There is nothing in Singer’s comment that isn’t publicly available knowledge. But I digress. I’m glad to see Stewart and McKellan together again.
I too hope that she comes back, she, as always, was fantastic…on a side note, who wouldn’t kill to be in New Zealand right now!
Wow! I’ll spread the good news!
This is great news for the film, fans, the franchise, and Fox — but forget Rose Byrne, what I want to know is if we’re getting Ellen Page back as Kitty Pryde (who’s the central character in the original Days of Future Past comic book arc; I’m guessing they’re already planning to sneak Hugh Jackman back in again).
I’m going to bet that Page isn’t in the film. The cartoon replaced Kitty Pryde with Bishop as the one who goes back in time and I wouldn’t be stunned if the film does this as well but with someone they already established in “First Class”.
I’m pretty sure that fans will be upset by this film because there’s no real way to link it to the previous films (the inciting incident of the story happened completely differently in the first “X-Men”) and the comics include a boatload of characters who either haven’t been introduced or who were completely botched in The Last Stand or Origins: Wolverine. If Marvel treated the X-Men like The Avengers and did a better job with the big picture, this storyline might have come together. But since it’s another standalone, it’s going to have to be rejiggered a bit.
My guess is that we’ll only see a quick flash of the future and most of the film will be focused on preventing the assassination. It will be a lot more standard with none of the intricacies of the original story.
Marvel has no say in the X-men movies, that’s all FOX.
if marvel had the rights to xmen movies, you better believe theyd do it up Avengers style! probably some good ol crossover action as well. there should be some law where fox has to give all marvel’s shit back. Spiderman would be all up in that shit too…oh well.
I believe movie Spidey is owned by Sony and not marvel.
It’s a great casting coup it’s a time travel story so it will be a lot of fun.
For those who aren’t familiar, the original comic story (loosely and unintentionally adapted from an old Doctor Who serial) centers on a future where mutants have been almost completely exterminated and those few remaining alive are rotting in prison camps overseen by sentient robots called Sentinels.
The key point is the death of a senator named Robert Kelly at the hands of a group of former Magneto henchmen in the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. The future remaining X-Men send one of their own back in time to tell the ‘current’ team of the impending disaster and rally them to stop the killing and prevent this future from coming to pass (eerily similar to the Terminator, but pre-dating it by three or four years).
My guess would be Mckellen and Stewart playing their older selves in this dystopian future. But just a guess.
if it unintentional than how can it be adapted from a dr. who story? I think you meant its similar to the dr. who story.
This is good news it will be interesting to see how Stewart and Mckellen interact with Fassbender and McAvoy. I also would like to see Jackman come back as well and not just as a cameo. Also I wonder if Days will effect The Wolverine, though probably not as it is post production.
They weren’t in the last one just because they would overshadow the new guys?
“but what about January Jones?!” said no one
Although having her back would be worth it if Singer gets Sigourney Weaver for an older Emma Frost, like he wanted to in his version of The Last Stand. I hope Rose Byrne and Famke Janssen are back too.
Please include CABLE. Don’t whiff on this, Bryan!
Cable? Was he in Days of Future Past? I thought he didn’t show up until Liefeld came along.
EXACTLY what I was gonna say, thank you, lol.
They sure made a mess of the xmen franchise. Hopefully this time jumping will erase xmen three.
Agreed. xmen three ruined the trilogy. lets pretend it never existed.
This movie needs Cyclops!
How come no one has mentioned what this sequel/prequel REALLY means?! NO X-MEN THE LAST STAND! This has the potential to completely wipe it away. Anyone who died is instantly back in the game. Fox could write an essay on how to save a franchise from a disaster of a film, First Class and Days of Future are master strokes. Now if someone could just write a book on how NOT to make a disaster film.
Famke Janssen and Hugh Jackman announced next hopefully!
Maybe in one of the alternate future timelines of the movie Moira MacTaggert will be a Scottish geneticist instead of an American CIA agent. That would be crazy.
–Days of Future Past– ?? what an idiotic title !!
Anyway, LOVED Fassbender’s intensity and McAvoy’s calm charisma in First Class. Two of the best actors working today, this is going to be great!
Days of Future Past is a great title and one of special significance to X-Fans.
Just when X-MEN: FIRST CLASS streamlined the X-Movie franchise, along comes Singer to mash up both the original and First Class takes, and probably gloss over what made either one any good. On the face of it, it’s apparent that the plot will go back and forth through time, but I don’t trust Singer to pull it off. The good news, though, is we’ll finally get to see SENTINELS.
And no, Ellen Page won’t be back and no, we won’t see Bishop.
