UPDATE, 12:50 PM: JFoxx might have given away his new role on his Twitter feed, posting, “Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night. Costume fits well.”
PREVIOUS, 12:28 PM: Discussions are in the early stages for Jamie Foxx to join Columbia Pictures’ next installment of The Amazing Spider-Man, which has director Marc Webb and star Andrew Garfield already set to return. It’s unclear exactly how Foxx would fit into the script by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner and based on a previous draft by James Vanderbilt, though sources said he would play Electro, according to Variety, which had the news first. Shailene Woodley has an offer to play Mary Jane Watson in the pic, already set for a 3D release May 2, 2014. Production begins early next year. The original has grossed more than $750 million worldwide. Foxx next stars in Quentin Tarantino’s Western Django Unchained, which opens on December 25.

C’mon, Sony… if Lucas can sell his entire empire to Disney, you can sell Spidey back to them so he can be back in the Marvel universe, where he belongs! It’s win, win, win!
Does anyone know who that guy was at the end of Amazing Spiderman?
Was that Green Goblin? Or….?
I’m happy to hear there is a sequel – maybe they’ll tell us.
By all means – IT SHOULD be and ought to be Mysterio.
And the plotline- if they are following what has already been established in the actual comics (Amazing Spider-Man # 197-200 circa 1979) should be that the burglar or store holdup man who killed Uncle Ben was never caught and had faked his own death is recruited by Mysterio to raid the Parker home in search of some hidden treasure in the basement, while Mysterio drugs Peter to make believe that his Aunt May has passed away.
No one ever found out on whether the burglar in “Amazing” was ever caught or killed. And with a mysterious character popping in and out of a cell like magic to call the Lizard a bumbling simpleton for messing up is a characteristic trait of Mysterio.

Foxx should just reprise his character from Horrible Bosses. Motherf*cker Jones would be a great Spidey villain.
Motherf*cker Jones was the refreshing comic relief in the otherwise pretty limp ‘Horrible Bosses’.
I am not sure what to make of this news item (the Electro part). The problem with TASM was that it had no clear concept: was it a heightened sci-fi film? A thriller? A blockbuster? A teen film? It just jumped around from world to world, so that the fairly credible scenes involving the police force seemed incongruous next to sequences featuring a giant lizard wanting to make other people into lizards … for some reason. It felt like the more intimate sequences was directed by Webb (the Peter/Gwen sequences, the skateboarding) whilst the action/CGI elements were made by the second unit.
He’s playing Electro, it’s been confirmed.
Yes that was meant to be Norman Osborn/Green Goblin, he was spoken of several times in the film and has always been Spider-Man’s main foe.
He was killed off far too quickly and easily in the previous trilogy.
Sony – Keep Spidey for yourself. Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to get overcrowded enough as it is and it doesn’t need him. Keep him for yourself and save us from excessive fanwank.
Wow, this just got worse. Marvel needs to pay Sony whatever they want to get their franchise back. Maybe they’re waiting for them to go bankrupt, so they can get it for cheap. That should be anytime soon.
Jamie Foxx is a bad idea for ANY role.
I guess you haven’t seen Ray.
A bad idea for any role, what are you high clown. This man has a best actor oscar under his belt you idiot. And do the films ‘Ray’, ‘Collateral, ‘Dreamgirls’, ‘Ali’, ‘Redemption’, ‘The Player’s Club’, ‘Jughead’ amongst others ring a bell or even reasonate in that hollow brain of yours.
Ah, fanboys. Gotta love ‘em!
Marvel needs to get the rights away from Sony NOW!!! Horrible casting.
Electro is good but Mysterio is the best I want him to be in the third movie then get rid of Andrew Garfield he’s too old. They should have cast Logan Lerman or an unknown a real 17 year old.
