Jared Leto has been cast alongside Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner in the AIDS drug drama Dallas Buyers Club, which is starting production next week in New Orleans. It will be the first feature film in five years for Leto, who has been concentrating on his band 30 Seconds To Mars and his documentary Artifact, which won the People’s Choice Award this year at Toronto. Dallas centers on Ron Woodruff (McConaughey), who was given six months to live after contracting AIDS in 1986 and spent the next six years smuggling medicine into the U.S. to help himself and fellow sufferers. Leto will play Rayon, a cross-dressing fellow AIDS patient who meets Ron in the hospital. The role was considered a choice won and the producers were close to casting it last week, when Garner came aboard. Leto, whose past credits include Requiem For A Dream, Girl, Interrupted and Lord Of War, is repped by CAA and Untitled; CAA and Cassian Elwes rep the film’s domestic distribution rights.

You left out one of Leto’s key roles: FIGHT CLUB.
Tyler: “I felt like destroying something beautiful”
And I’d say PANIC ROOM is a better credit than LORD OF WAR, which sucked. Of course he started on MY SO-CALLED LIFE. REQUIEM’s still his quintessential role – he’s amazing in that film.
Go Leto!
Great Movember look.
Finally ran out of money did he? Surprised he didn’t four years ago.
I’m willing to bet he’s made more loot with music. Medium aside, he’s always been an artist that puts himself out there and has my respect. This seems like a cool project and another memorable role for him and McConaughey (who has made some great choices lately too).
i don’t think money is an issue. He has done really well with his music. It’s just strange he has gone back to acting at all given that mars are about to release their next album. Weird. Jared very Weird.
I think he said the album was actually done so now he has time to focus on his other projects. I can’t wait for him to go back on stage but love to see him on silver screen as well. He does well on everything he does.
Go Leto!
Oh Dorothy we forgot for a second that choosing roles has to be about the money …
The guy sells out stadiums, he certainly doesn’t need the lunch money.
Good to see Leto dabbling in acting again. A great get for DBC.
