John Quaintance and David Feeney have been elevated to executive producers and co-showrunners on Fox‘s freshman comedy Ben And Kate. They will co-run the series with a creator/executive producer Dana Fox. They succeed Garrett Donovan and Neil Goldman, who departed over a month ago. Gail Lerner, who came on board following Donovan and Goldman’s exit to lend senior-level support several days a week, is staying on.
Ben And Kate is the lowest-rated member of Fox’s new Tuesday comedy block. It launched to mostly positive reviews and landed a six-episode back order from the network, bringing its freshman season to 19 episodes. CAA-repped Quaintance previously worked on Notes From The Underbelly, Perfect Couples and Whitney. Feeney’s series credits include According To Jim and 2 Broke Girls. He’s with UTA.

Ben & Kate is by far the best new show of the season on any network and of any genre. It’s funny and has a huge heart. I don’t quite get the low ratings. FOX needs to push this show more.
What are you smoking and where can I get some?
I blame it on Chernin Entertainment. They hit with NEW GIRL via Meriwether, who is overrated herself, then figured Dana Fox and Lorene Scafaria deserve their own show. But neither is talented at all. Read their scripts. Watch their movies. Nothing Dana Fox has written has been remotely well-written or funny. Zero talent.
Agreed, Dana’s simply not funny. But these guys are showrunners in name only, like the last guys. Until Fox acknowledges that the show is crap and gives new showrunners power to do what Dana cannot, it’ll be the same 22 minutes of idiocy.
I don’t think ‘Axel’ is ‘smoking’ anything – I think he/she works for/on B&K.
Ugh. Put this POS out of its misery already.
Go Feeney!
why hasn’t this shit been cancelled already?? get. it. done.
Feeney is one of the funniest guys in the business. And a gentleman to boot. Good move by 20th.
John’s great and works hard. Well deserved.
Got to give John Q some love, too. Great writer, terrifically funny, easy on the eyes – this is a well-earned, well-deserved promotion.
get this show off the air. the only reason to watch is for Lucy Punch and i would much prefer her in a feature or on another show.
Cancel that terrible show already and give us The Goodwin Games!
I’d recommend an episode focused on Ben’s Daddy’s Closet.
Not since the 1987 Oakland A’s Bash Brothers, Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco, has there been a better pairing.
Love me some Feeney.
Boresville. Why are they writing like the audience is dumb?? It’s over. New showrunners won’t help this crap.
Third set of showrunners? Isn’t that a sign right there that this show stinks and is beyond repair. Shut. It. Down.
Go JOHN Q! He’s great!
The People have spoken! And other people agree. It’s as if FOX thinks that by bolstering its mistakes, it can make them into good ideas.
Hoping the new showrunners are actually parents, because one of the biggest problems with this show is that it’s about a mom who doesn’t talk, think or act like one. Why does every grown-up on every Fox sitcom have to act like a child and have the love life of someone in their early twenties?? These characters are supposed to be thirty, aren’t they? It doesn’t ring true at all.
Feensters Union Represent!
I wonder if the football pillow will make a guest appearance.
Feeney! Jaccuzzi Pete and Pops Stargell would be proud!
congrats feeney! glad you found greener pastures
Hey Fox, can you PLEASE pick up some shows that are actually funny and feature people of color. These sitcoms about “quirky” white folks are so played out
Excellent decision keeping Gail Lerner aboard. Hopefully, she can bring to BEN & KATE the same level of excellence she brought to ANIMAL PRACTICE.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a show with such a big heart hated so much. There’s like nothing controversial or gimmicky about it, it’s a heartfelt sitcom about a brother and sister, her daughter and their friends.
Great move picking up Feeney, just need some more Jacuzzi Thoughts to get this show rollin!
