EXCLUSIVE: This past summer, Lifetime picked up Devious Maids, Marc Cherry’s follow-up to Desperate Housewives. Now the cable network has added to its development slate Paranormal Housewives, a light drama executive produced by Julia Roberts, her longtime collaborator Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas as well as Robyn Meisinger of Madhouse Entertainment. Written/exec produced by Miss Congeniality scribe Katie Ford, it is about an all-female group of paranormal investigators who call themselves The Paranormal Housewives. The show is inspired by the real Paranormal Housewives, a Southern California group of female professional paranormal investigators. It was launched in 2010 by Erin Potter and her friends Kirsten Thorne and Marsha Covert-Garcia in part as a response to their field being dominated by male investigators.
Potter, Thorne and Covert-Garcia will serve as consultants on the Lifetime series, which is produced by ABC Studios, Roberts’ Red Om Films and 3 Arts, where Goldsmith-Thomas is a manager-producer. Om principals Lisa Gillan and Marissa Yeres Gill serve as producers, along with German Michael Torres of GMT Films, which has a deal with the Paranormal Housewives group, and Rick Telles.
This is the second sale for Roberts, Goldsmith-Thomas and ABC Studios, who recently set up workplace comedy Taming Of The Shrew at ABC with Marc Hyman writing. Paranormal Housewives brings Ford back to Lifetime, where she wrote the Emmy-nominated 2009 telefilm Prayers For Bobby starring Sigourney Weaver.

This sounds so cool!
Is this scripted or doc?
This show’s scripted, as you can tell from the “inspired by” and the real group being listed as consultants or whatever, but I’ve heard some talk of a possible doc in the future… :O
This sounds great. But why as a tv show? And why Lifetime?
@Simon: why not?? ! Its a franchise (detectives) crossed with a gimmick (paranormal) Medium meets Desperate Housewives..and Lifetime is a perfect home for it. They need new scripted programming esp as Drop Dead Diva is likely on it’s last legs, as is Army Wives. So..like I said why not? Seems like a total no-brainer.
Why not do this as a movie? Julia? Elaine? Give a little love to theatrical films.
Love this premise!!
Can they investigate the mystery of Julia’s career? Why is she no longer doing movies? She has been missing in action for a long time is it a supernatural curse of some sort? Inquiring minds want to know.
Sounds interesting- also sounds like a good fit on Lifetime
Love that this is based on the real women! They must have tons of strange stories. I’d also be curious to see a doc.
Anything with Paranormal in the title does well. good move.
Cant’ wait for this! Sounds a good addiction in the making.
conceptually good fit for lifetime
This actually sounds like a decent idea. I’m sure at lifetime it will become crap. If youre going to do tv why not AMC? But I agree this is a movie Ms Roberts.
AMC has something similar in development about Area 51. They’re hunting aliens instead of ghosts.
I’m looking forward to my encounter with these ghastly, I mean ghostly, women.
This looks amazing. Excited to see this, especially as it will be women driven. In such a male heavy field this is exactly the twist that will draw me in.
Wow whose payroll are you people on??? Paranormal Housewives… Are you kidding me? At least no one actually watches lifetime
Horrible idea. Lifetime needs to do projects that make women smarter, not to pander to the lowest life forms that believe in nonsense. What a disappointment. Back to the drawing board.
Remember when Julia Roberts was a movie star? Me neither.
Great project! Robyn and Madhouse are killing it in TV this year.
And the end of civilization in 5… 4… 3… 2….
Thank God that female paranormal investigators are finally getting their due. Forward!
You go cousin congrats on the production
I want to see a reality show with the real ladies!
This is Kirsten from the Paranormal Housewives. We are all very excited and happy about this project. We hope you will all take the time to visit our website and see what we’re really all about. We are real; no gimmick. Thanks to all of you who are expressing enthusiasm! We appreciate it.
OMG YES! A reality show!
That’s a great idea, I’d watch that.
