Michael Bay announced today that Mark Wahlberg will star in Transformers 4. “Mark is awesome. We had a blast working on Pain And Gain and I’m so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers’ legacy,” Bay said on his website this afternoon. Don Murphy, Tom DeSanto, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Ian Bryce will produce Transformers 4. Bay, Steven Spielberg, Brian Goldner and Mark Vahradian will executive produce. The fourth film in the mechanical shapeshifting franchise from Paramount is due to hit the big screen on June 27, 2014. The first three Transformers films have grossed $2.6 billion worldwide. The crime comedy Pain And Gain, which stars Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie, is scheduled to open April 26, 2013. Wahlberg is repped by WME and Leverage Management and Bay also is repped by WME.

this is goofy
Legacy of Sh!t…perfect match
Well at least Wahlberg is a team player and he doesn’t bite the hand that feeds him like Shia LeBeefe.
F*©# you, you’re goofy. This pairing is genius.
I agree. Bay and Wahlberg are two phenomenal directors and story developers working together. This has huge (as in another billion dollar haul) written all over it.
For realsies?
A decent talent who hasn’t challenged himself since Boogie nights days…mark has the chance to rise above with material like huckabee’s and departed but instead goes the simple route with fare like Ted and Max Payne…I hope this trend changes as I’ve always enjoyed watching him onscreen.
You didn’t see ‘The Fighter’, I take it?
Exactly, he’s kept a pretty good balance of art and commerce over the years. You can also count his work in James Gray’s “We Own the Night.” Not a perfect film, but a serious one made for grown-ups. Also, his TV output as a producer has been fairly ambitious.
No, I saw the fighter…head body, head body
Wow. Like I really needed ANOTHER reason not to watch this trash.
hahaha at the comments. Wahlberg can certainly do better but the gain is clearly too great to pass up XD. Dat cash.
So he finally found something to actually top The Happening? Congrats!
Here’s the way I look at — which is not aesthetically — but when Michael Bay makes a film, a thousand people get jobs and another thousand keep theirs.
Exactly. He’s not my cup of tea, but the guy gets butts in seats and gives them what they want. And if this kind of movie was a slam dunk, GI Joe would be a real franchise.
Now if Favreau would give up a few popcorn paychecks and get back to directing work that he’s written. Now that’s a voice that I miss.
Really?
I don’t get it. Maybe he’s getting 50% of the gross. Mark, call me baby.
I know what you mean but that was a low blow.
Wait, Wahlberg has challenged himself since Boogie Nights? That’s ridiculous. He made Three Kings, I Heart Huckabees, The Departed, We Own The Night, The Lovely Bones, The Fighter and was attached to Oscar front runner Silver Linings before ORussell basically fired him. He’s also an EP on Boardwalk Empire and In Treatment and Entourage which ran for 8 seasons. Dismissing his acting abilities is fine but suspect given the amount of fine work he’s done, but saying he isn’t pushing himself is stupid.
“carry on the Transformers’ legacy”
Yeah Bay. A proud cinematic “legacy” of urine gags, testicular humor, racist robots and “My bad,” puns. Classic film making!
In twenty years, I know what’ll still be around, and it won’t be your idiotic web snark.
Yes. Legacy.
I now have a screenshot of JaySmack’s snark and I’m going to keep it for twenty years just to prove you wrong.
This info was leaked a few weeks ago and everyone denied it. The news was all over the web every fanboy site had it and Bay said no way I’m only doing Pain and Gain with Mark. Now they announce it as if it’s big news. At least we don’t have to see Shia again.
We are just never going to get that Funky bunch reunion.
If Michael’s staff gets a mailing from James, be sure he sees it. It’s his calling.
Whatever. At least we won’t have to watch Shia’s whiny character and his girlfriends anymore. Finally.
Compared to Shia LaBeowulf, this is a major step up. Mark is a likable, relevant actor, while Shia was NEVER likable or relevant. Transformers did well DESPITE Shia because of the insane action that that audience likes (not my cup of tea, but that’s ok). If Spielberg didn’t (oddly) take Shia under his wing, we wouldn’t have had to put up with his sub-par acting in big budget movies.
Ted was just a huge success for Wahlberg, so he has shown that he can help fill seats. Shia, on the other hand, repulses viewers and craps all over the projects he’s in. He seems to think that the cheesy, yet big paycheck roles are beneath him, meanwhile he couldn’t act his way out of a 3rd grade play,
Speaking of biting the hand that feeds…. look at all the fanboys who made the franchise a hit complaining about it… becoming a hit. I’ve seen this a million times. You bitch and moan, but then you go watch the movie… which is what leads the team behind it to think you want another one….
Which robot will he play?
Does Wahlberg not know that he has a successful career?
There has been better acting performed by house plants. Anyone who think this guy is a good actor should go watch The Happening.
But legendary greed-mongers Bay and Spielberg will actually have to PAY a big star like Wahlberg. A billion-dollar studio franchise built on unknowns locked into 3-film contracts is now hiring a star that costs actual money?! That’s just not “good business.”
Mark is a businessman. And a very very very good one. The end. Sidebar, do they let Murphy anywhere near this process or is it pay and credit per contract and stay away. Who in this group would listen to a word he says.
To all bitch festers….cheer up, get a life. Sometimes it’s just relaxing to watch mindless mayhem for pure fun and mellow out the brain. Life is tough enough.
