EXCLUSIVE: After dipping her toe in the sitcom waters with a guest spot on CBS’ 2 Broke Girls last May, lifestyle mogul Martha Stewart is entering the space in a major way with Tao Of Martha, a single-camera comedy she is executive producing for Fox. The project, from Imagine TV and 20th TV, is based on Jen Lancaster’s upcoming book Tao Of Martha, which is in the vein of Julie And Julia, with domestic diva Stewart as a role model instead of cooking icon Julia Child.
The Tao Of Martha centers on a highly disorganized, scattered former party girl who decides she needs to grow up after her husband leaves her because he can’t handle her chaotic lifestyle anymore. She decides to kill two birds with one stone: become a better role model for her daughter and write a new book about changing her life according to the “teachings” of Martha Stewart. Jake In Progress creator Austin Winsberg will write the script and serve as showrunner. He executive produces with Stewart and Imagine’s Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo. Stweart is not attached to star but may make occasional, mostly voice-over appearances. The Tao of Martha book will be published next fall. Winsberg is repped by CAA, Underground and Warren Dern. Imagine and Stewart are with CAA.

No, thanks.
…and that’s NOT a good thing!!!!!!!
Is this really a good thing?
I think I read that Winsberg has a musical opening on Broadway next year. If so, epic year for that guy! I liked Jake. Think Emily’s Reasons Why Not screwed its shot.
Wha??? I saw the girlfriend musical in Seattle. Decent music, awful book. If that’s true, then Broadway has lost all sense of standards!
I hear the musical is pretty good. As for Jake in Progress, not sure Emily killed that show. The bad concept and crappy writing did that…
this sounds like a fun one. Martha has a huge following. Looks like a smart package. I hear Austin Winsberg just sold another show as well. Good for him.
I’ve read all Jen Lancaster’s books and am a HUGE fan of hers. If she has any involvement in this project whatsoever, I can promise it will be fantastic and hilarious.
I could give or take Martha, but I’m THRILLED with the the fact that Jen Lancaster’s coming to prime time. She’s been one of my favorite authors for years and to see her stuff come to my living room every week is going to be fan-friggin-tastic!!!
Yeah, sounds like it should a laugh-track-fest-o-fun — Winsberg can cover that really socially-reprehensible period from when Stewart was CONVICTED of benefiting from “INSIDER TRADING” and obstructing DoJ and SEC investigations!
Well, it figures this show gets a pilot order from “The King of the Electronic Hacking,” News Corp/Fox honcho Citizen Rupe Murdoch. He really relates well to WHITE-COLLAR CRIMINALITY! ;-D

Love to see former cons getting richer…
Winsberg is a hilarious and brilliant writer, I am SO SO excited for this one!
Winsberg is a terrific talent! He’ll do Martha proud.
Really?!? What pinhead came up with this idea? This will be the show that nobody wants, that nobody asked for, and that lasts only a few weeks.
If Underground is involved it will be great !
Love her. Finally back on track.
Agree that this show will be cancelled after a couple of weeks. Martha Stewart seems to have really lowered her standards. C’mon, there has to be better ideas for a Martha Stewart show than this. This reminds me of the failed Martha Stewart: Apprentice show.
Here’s a challenge for Winsberg in this new America: let’s see if he can write a script without laughs that rely on relentless, underhanded snark.
I guess people have to be rude because of jealousy? Is that what this is? Time after time when I read an article about someone selling a show, the only stuff under it is negative/rude comments (for the most part). I guess I have terrible taste, at least most likely according to several people who posted on here, but I think the show sounds really fun and it’s definitely something I would watch. I also used to watch Jake in Progress and I LOVED it! So, I guess that’s why there’s a variety of options out there…so that we can all find things we like. Also, while a concept can be unappealing, it’s interesting to me that people (who obviously think they’re pretty smart) are dumb enough to so quickly and passionately bash it when they know nothing of the execution. I guarantee if you read the one sentence “pitch” of some of the greatest scripts of history, we would NOT want to buy them…so, maybe we could all stand to reserve the harsh judgment…just until we actually SEE the product. Sorry to vent, but i don’t think I can stand reading one more “jealous sounding” rude comment.
I totally agree! Love Martha Stewart and can’t wait to see this show!
Sorry I’m late to the party on this one. Was out of town and catching up now. Clearly, the writer or producer or someone from Martha’s camp is “bestie” and hurt by the comments. Sorry for the others being insensitive but fact is, the project doesn’t sound appealing because Martha isn’t appealing. She picked a writer whose last show was a poorly written and poorly received dud which only got on the air because of Stamos (I assume, it couldn’t have been the pilot script). The writer has only one other recent credit on imdb which is Gossip Girl so no wonder people’s hopes aren’t high. Fox is looking for female driven comedies so you never know, but I’d be willing to bet money this dies at the script stage.
people aren’t jealous. they’re exhausted by lazy concepts, self-satisfied writing, and so many projects’ pervasive cynicism. so let this show be the pure and shining light amidst the dreck.
