EXCLUSIVE: I’ve learned that Michael Boatman is set to co-star opposite Tia Mowry in the Nick at Nite family comedy pilot Instant Mom. Boatman replaces Duane Martin who was originally cast in the role. The recasting decision was made after today’s table read. Written by Warren Bell and Jessica Butler loosely based on their real life, Instant Mom centers on a 25-year-old party girl (Mowry) who trades in cosmos for carpools when she marries successful doctor Charlie (Boatman), an older man with kids. Bell, Butler and Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment executive produce. Spin City alum Boatman, repped by Innovative and managed by Sanders/Armstrong/Caserta, recently recurred on CBS’ The Good Wife and FX’s Anger Management.

Good choice, although Tia Mowry seems totally miscast. All they need now is a bunch of cross overs with Anger Management, and have Boatman and Sheen’s characters have extremely homoerotic conversations.
So Melanie Barnett-Davis and ‘Punk Ass’ Chauncey are gonna be married. (BET’s The Game reference) This should be good.

Huge Michael Boatman fan. A truly terrific actor, equally adept at comedy and drama. Hope he gets to keep appearing on The Good Wife, though. I love seeing him on that show.
Worked with Duane on a Fox sitcom he starred in and he was great as a performer and a person.
Tia Mowry is NOT miscast. She is perfect for the role. They cast her first and built the rest of the cast around her. She has the acting ability for the role and some of her real personality (which you see on her reality show) can come into play also.

I agree with Saskia. Duane Martin is very sexy and this recasting just killed whatever sex appeal they wanted the character to have. Anyway, I wouldn’t be watching anyway. I find Tia Mowry completely unappealing. She is the black hole of comedy. In fact I’m going to go back to The Game now that she’s gone.
