EXCLUSIVE: It didn’t take long for MTV‘s new president of programming Susanne Daniels to make her mark. I’ve learned that the network’s co-head of scripted programming, SVP Clay Spencer, will be leaving the cable network. I hear Spencer has not met with Daniels, who made his departure her first staffing decision amid speculation that she may be bringing someone from the outside. Daniels was announced as new head of programming yesterday and officially starts Monday.

Spencer, along with fellow co-head of scripted Justin Levy, were promoted to SVP in August and reported to MTV’s outgoing head of programming David Janollari. Spencer, who has almost two years left on his contract, was brought to MTV in 2010 by Janollari. He previously was VP Drama Development at the WB Network under Janollari where he helped develop and launch Supernatural. Levy has been at MTV for four years. He championed the network’s breakout comedy Awkward and also has payed an integral part in the development and production of the other successful MTV series, Teen Wolf.

So much for MTV’s scripted slate. Not only are they treating all the new series with the worst timeslots on Television but now they are cleaning house…
‘Bout time. Clay was a Janollari hanger-on at the WB, and again at MTV. What a waste of space. Maybe MTV will actually churn out good content now. And to give him credit for “Supernatural” or “Teen Wolf” is a joke. Just because he happened to be around (and happened to be assigned) certain shows, it’s a far cry to give him CREDIT for said shows. Good riddance.
guy helped launch successful shows.
definitely need to dump him.
Network politics.
Beavis and Butt-Head should move to Comedy Central.
Hopefully Justin takes the hint too. Buy bye…
Does he even know how to take a hint?
Considering MTV hasn’t launched a hit new scripted series since Teen Wolf and AWKWARD its about time for a change.
The Inbetweeners is better than both of those shows combined. The only problem is the ratings…
Do you guys all know the MTV execs personally or do you just hate the network? I’ve worked in that department and those guys genuinely work hard. I just can’t quite make out why anyone would blame one or two execs in particular for the ratings/success of the entire network this season. There are so many factors that come into play, and the network has developed a lot of quality in the past year
